James Seaton (professor)
James Everett Seaton (1944 – March 30, 2017) was an American writer, professor and literary critic. He argued for the continued relevance and importance of the tradition of literary humanism championed by Matthew Arnold and later, Irving Babbitt and Paul Elmer Moore. At the same time he opposed many of the dominant trends in Academia regarding literary criticism and the teaching of literature, such as the Cultural Studies model instituted by Herbert Marcuse and the general emphasis away from the study of literary works themselves in favor of a focus on critical theory. Biography James Seaton was born in Iowa, received B. A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and earned a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature with a major in Greek and Latin from the University of Iowa. James Seaton (1804–1876) was a journalist and political figure in Newfoundland. He represented Burgeo-LaPoile Burgeo-La Poile is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 7,527 eligible voters living within the district. The district was first created when Newfoundland joined con ... in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1859 to 1860. He was editor of the St. John's ''Morning Courier'' from 1846 to 1849 and then was editor of the ''Times and General Commercial Gazette'' for six months. In 1856, he founded the ''Newfoundland Express'' and served as editor until 1876. Seaton also founded the ''Weekly Express'' which operated from 1858 to 1859. He resigned his seat in the Newfoundland assembly in 1860. James Seaton (bishop)
James Buchanan Seaton (19 March 1868 – 25 May 1938) was an eminent Anglican Bishop in the first half of the 20th century. He was born on 19 March 1868, educated at Leeds Grammar School and matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford in 1886 where Samuel Rolles Driver had been canon since 1883. Seaton was ordained in 1894. After a period as a Curate in Oswestry he was Vice-Principal of Leeds Clergy School, then Vicar of St. Bartholomew's Church, Armley. From 1909 until 1914 he was Archdeacon of Johannesburg when he became Principal of Cuddesdon Theological College, a position he held until his appointment to the episcopate as Bishop of Wakefield in 1928. James Wilson Seaton
James Wilson Seaton (May 28, 1824February 11, 1904) was an American lawyer, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer. He served in the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly, representing Grant County. Biography Born in New Hartford, New York, Seaton studied at Cazenovia Seminary in Cazenovia, New York. He then studied law in Rome, New York. In 1847, he moved to Potosi, in the Wisconsin Territory, where he was admitted to the Wisconsin bar and practiced law. He was also in the mercantile and insurance business. He was editor of the ''Potosi Republican'' until 1855, when he was succeeded by Edwin R. Paul, and he wrote several articles about the history of Grant County, Wisconsin. Seaton served in the town government and on the Grant County Board of Supervisors and was chairman of the county board.
