James S. Truman
James Steele Truman (August 24, 1874 – July 1957) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life He was born on August 24, 1874, in Owego, Tioga County, New York, the son of Gilbert T. Truman (born 1850) and Alice T. (Steele) Truman (born 1852). He graduated from Cornell University as Ph.B. in 1896, and LL.B. in 1898. by Ebenezer Mack Treman & Murray E. Evergreen Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery located at Owego in Tioga County, New York. It was established by the village of Owego in March 1851. Seymour Lowman
Seymour Lowman (October 7, 1868 – March 13, 1940) was an American lawyer and politician from the state of New York. He was also Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1925 to 1926. Life Seymor Lowman was born in Chemung, New York on October 7, 1868, the son of John Lowman (1832–1884) and Fanny (Bixby) Lowman. He was raised in Bainbridge, and completed his high school education at Bainbridge Union School. He then graduated from Lowell's Business College in Binghamton, and became a school teacher. He studied law with attorney John W. Church of Norwich, was admitted to the bar in 1891, and practiced in Elmira. On September 9, 1893, he married Katherine Harding Smith, whom he had known while growing up in Bainbridge. Lowman became active in local politics as a supporter of the campaigns of Jacob Sloat Fassett. Owego (village), New York
Owego is a village in and the county seat of Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 3,896 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Binghamton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name is derived from the Iroquois word ''Ahwaga'', meaning ''where the valley widens.'' The Village of Owego is by the west town line of the Town of Owego and is west of Binghamton, New York. Owego is one of only twelve villages in New York still incorporated under a charter; all other New York villages have incorporated or re-incorporated under the provisions of Village Law. History The village of Owego was established in 1787. When the "Town of Tioga" was created from the Town of Union, Owego village was in Tioga. Owego, New York
Owego is a town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 18,728 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from the Iroquois word ''Ahwaga'', meaning "where the valley widens". Owego is in the southeastern corner of the county, west of Binghamton. The village of Owego is in the western part of the town. History The town was first settled around 1786. The "Original Town of Owego" was created at the time Tioga County was formed in 1791. This original town was reduced by formation of later towns in the county. The town's name is a derivative of the Iroquois word "Ahwaga", which means "where the valley widens". This name came from the vast floods that run into the valley when the winter snows melt, which caused several deaths a year. The current town of Owego was formed as the "Town of Tioga" in 1800 from the town of Union (now in Broome County).
