James Reilly (Canadian Politician)
James Reilly (March 28, 1835 – July 9, 1909) was a Canadian businessman and politician. He was the sixth Mayor of Calgary, Alberta. Early life Reilly was born in 1835 in Napierville, Quebec to immigrant parents from Ireland. In Quebec he became an architect and builder before going to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1882, then to Calgary in 1883. In Calgary he became actively involved with the local community. He played a key part in organizing a citizens group concerned about the location of the railway station that was built in Calgary. While proprietor of the Royal Hotel, he organized the first civic committee meeting on January 4, 1884. This was the first step leading to Calgary's municipal incorporation later that year. Political life Reilly continually sought opportunities for political positions throughout his time in Calgary, although only succeeding at the local level as Councillor and Mayor for Calgary. James Reilly (Irish Politician)
James Reilly (born 16 August 1955) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician, businessman and medical doctor who served as a Senator from May 2016 to March 2020. He previously served as Acting Minister for Children and Youth Affairs from February to May 2016, Minister for Health from March 2011 to July 2014 and deputy leader of Fine Gael from 2010 to 2017. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency from 2007 to 2016. He subsequently announced his retirement from politics after he lost his bid for election for his old seat at the 2020 general election. Personal life Reilly graduated with a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1979 and is a qualified General Practitioner. James Bernard Reilly
James Bernard Reilly (August 12, 1845 – May 14, 1924) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. James B. Reilly was born in Pinedale, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools and was graduated from the Bunker Hill School in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, in 1862. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1869 and commenced practice in Pottsville. He was district attorney of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, from 1871 to 1875. Reilly was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses. He resumed the practice of law in Pottsville. He was a delegate to the 1880 Democratic National Convention. He was an unsuccessful candidate for law judge of Schuylkill County in 1881 and again in 1882, and an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1884 to the Forty-ninth Congress. James G. Reilly (born 9 May 1957) is the second drummer for the Northern Ireland based punk band Stiff Little Fingers, with whom he played from 1979 to 1981. Reilly was born January 31, 1945, in Springfield, Illinois. He moved to Jacksonville, Illinois in 1962.
