James Quinn (director)
James Quinn is an American film and television director. In the film industry, he has only worked as an assistant director on the films ''Smokey and the Bandit'' (1977), ''The Last Waltz'' (1978), '' Rich and Famous'' (1981), ''Gremlins'' (1984) and other films. In 1984, he became an assistant director on the television series ''Miami Vice'', he made his head directorial debut on that series, directing three episodes in 1987. Some of his other television directing credits include '' Crime Story'', '' Midnight Caller'', ''The Client'', ''Early Edition'', '' Law & Order'' and '' Law & Order: Special Victims Unit''. Smokey And The Bandit
''Smokey and the Bandit'' is a 1977 American road action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick, Paul Williams and Mike Henry. The directorial debut of stuntman Hal Needham, the film follows Bo "Bandit" Darville (Reynolds) and Cledus "Snowman" Snow (Reed), two bootleggers attempting to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. While the Snowman drives the truck carrying the beer, the Bandit drives a Pontiac Trans Am to distract law enforcement (called blocking) and keep the attention off the Snowman. ''CBS Summer Playhouse'' is an American anthology series that ran from June 12, 1987 to August 22, 1989 on CBS. It aired unsold television pilots during the summer season. Overview Tim Reid and Daphne Maxwell Reid acted as hosts during the first season, introducing each pilot. Viewers were also encouraged to call a 1-800 number at the end of each episode, to voice their preference. However, the "winning" pilot chosen by the viewers was never picked up as a series. The series was revamped during the second and third seasons, and featured no hosts or viewer voting. Reception David Bianculli of ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'' criticized the anthology series, writing that it "may be the most inaccurate title ever given to a TV program". ''D.E.A.'' is an American drama series which was aired on Fox as part of its 1990-91 lineup. ''D.E.A.'' was based on true stories of the Drug Enforcement Administration. Shot in ''cinéma vérité'' style, the program combined recreated scenes using actors with actual surveillance footage and film of actual newscasts covering the stories depicted. Fox apparently had considerable confidence in this concept. When the initial version garnered low ratings and was put on hiatus, before its return the program was retooled into ''DEA—Special Task Force'', which placed more emphasis on the agents' personal lives and showed less graphic violence.
