Sir James Pringle, 4th Baronet
Sir James Pringle, 4th Baronet (1726–1809), was a British soldier and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1761 to 1779. Pringle was the son of Sir Robert Pringle, 3rd Baronet of Stichill and his wife Catherine Pringle, daughter. of James Pringle of Torwoodlee, Selkirk and was baptized on 6 November 1726. In 1744, he joined the army in the Royal Scots Fusiliers as a 2nd Lieutenant and was a lieutenant in 1747 and captain in 1759. He served in Flanders during the War of the Austrian Succession and at Minden in 1759. He was a, major in 1759 and lieutenant-colonel in 1762. In 1761 Pringle was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for Berwickshire. In 1765 he became lieutenant-colonel of the 59th Foot. He married Elizabeth MacLeod, daughter of Norman MacLeod of MacLeod on 11 September 1767. He was returned again for Berwickshire in the 1768 general election. James Pringle (Northern Ireland Politician)
James Alexander Pringle KC (18 August 1874 – 7 July 1935) was a barrister and Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. James Pringle was the son of Henry Pringle, of Clonbay House, Clones, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. He was admitted, firstly as a solicitor in 1900, and was then called to the Bar of Ireland at King's Inns, Dublin twelve years later. After just nine years, in 1921, he was called to the Inner Bar - becoming King's Counsel (K.C.); traditionally, one must be a member of the utter bar for ten years. Pringle stood for the UK Parliament in Fermanagh and Tyrone in the 1922 and 1923 general elections, on each occasion being narrowly defeated by two Nationalist Party members. In 1924, the Nationalists stood aside, and Pringle was elected alongside fellow Ulster Unionist Party member Charles Falls, easily beating two Sinn Féin members. James Hogarth Pringle
James Hogarth Pringle (born 26 January 1863 in Parramatta, Australia – died 24 April 1941 in Killearn, Scotland) was an Australian-born British surgeon in Glasgow, who made a number of important contributions to surgical practice. He is most famous for the development of the Pringle manoeuvre, a technique still used in surgery today. Early life He was the only son of George Hogarth Pringle (1830–1871) a well known surgeon in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. Before emigrating to Australia George Hogarth Pringle had worked in Edinburgh with Joseph Lister and had been responsible for the introduction of antiseptic surgical practice into Australia. After his father died in 1872, James returned to Britain to school at Sedbergh in Cumberland and from there entered the University of Edinburgh Medical School to study medicine, graduating in 1885. James Scott Pringle is a Canadian botanist. Life James Scott Pringle is Plant Taxonomist at Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. He completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. He earned his doctorate at University of Tennessee under the supervision of Aaron John Sharp. Work Dr. Pringle joined the staff of Royal Botanical Gardens in 1963, as RBG's first full-time scientist. Over the course of his career to date, Dr. Pringle has been binomial author or co-author of many species of plants. He has named or updated the taxonomy of 88 species, subspecies, and sub-families of various vascular plants, mostly in the Gentian Family. He is also a published authority on the history of botanical exploration in Canada. He serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Biology Department of McMaster University. James Pringle (Provost)
James Pringle FRSE FRSGS (1822–1886) was a Scottish rope manufacturer who served as Provost of Leith 1881 until 1886. Life He was born in 1822 the son of William Murray Pringle of the Edinburgh Naval and Military Academy. The family lived at 23 Bread Street. James was educated at the High School in Edinburgh. He was at the school during its relocation from High School Yards to Calton Hill in 1829. In 1840 his father was working from the Adjutant General's Office at 1 Grove Street in Edinburgh. From 1841 he worked as a clerk at the Edinburgh Rope Company on the north side of Leith Links. He was then living at 15 Thomsons Place in Leith. By 1855 it had become Edinburgh Ropery and Sailcloth Manufactury and he had become Manager. He was by this time living at a relatively new villa, designed by Thomas Hamilton, facing over Leith Links to his place of work, from Claremont Park.
