James Hervey Price
James Hervey Price (1797 – 13 July 1882) was a Canadian attorney and political figure in Canada West. He was born and grew up in Cumberland, United Kingdom, and studied law at Doctors' Commons. He moved to Upper Canada in 1828 and became an attorney in 1833. He was appointed the city of Toronto's first city clerk in 1834 and the following year built a house north of Toronto that he named Castlefield. In 1836 he was elected as a city councillor for St. David's Ward in Toronto but was defeated the following year. Although he considered himself a Reformer, he did not participate in the Upper Canada Rebellion. In 1841 he was elected to the first Parliament of the Province of Canada, representing the 1st riding of York as a Reformer. He served as the commissioner of Crown lands from 1848 to 1851 when he was defeated in his reelection campaign for his seat in the Parliament. James Price (businessman)
James Price (17761840) was a miller, businessman, banker, and railroad executive based in Wilmington, Delaware. Born to a wealthy family in Kent County, Maryland, Price moved to Wilmington in his youth. He invested in Joseph Tatnall's mills in Brandywine, Delaware. In 1802, he married Tatnall's daughter, Margaret, with whom he had four children between 1804 and 1809. In 1802, Tatnall also bought the Rotheram Mills, and moved into the 1740 brick house built by Joseph Rotheram, a Quaker who had immigrated to the American colonies in 1723. After his father-in-law died in 1813, Price became a co-owner of Tatnall's milling operations, along with brothers-in-law Thomas Lea and Edward Tatnall and Tatnall relative James Canby. Price later became the first president of the Union Bank of Delaware. James Price (chemist)
James Price (1752–1783) was an English chemist and alchemist who claimed to be able to turn mercury into silver or gold. When challenged to perform the conversion in front of credible witnesses for a second time, he instead committed suicide by drinking prussic acid. Early life Born in London in 1752, he was initially called James Higginbotham but changed his name to Price following the wishes of a relative who had died and left him a legacy. He attended Oxford University and, although no records of his early education or his research at Oxford exist, had a brilliant career there. He became a Master of Arts at 25 and the university made him a Doctor of Medicine in 1778, particularly for his work in the field of chemistry. In 1781, at the age of 29, he became a member of the Royal Society. James Price (6 February 1917 – 22 September 2005) was a Welsh civil engineer, mathematician, author, and poet. Price was the chief resident engineer on several large-scale engineering projects, including the M1 and M3 motorways, and an internationally acclaimed poet. Education Price was a national scholar studying engineering mathematics. In the summer higher exams of 1935, he was ninth in the county. Price graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1938 with a Bachelor of Engineering. He joined the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1942 at the age of 25, following examinations he had taken pre-emptively in the summer of 1940. At the same time, Price was recommended for promotion to assistant civil engineer (A.C.E.). In 1942, he became a Master of Engineering. James Hubert Price (September 7, 1878November 22, 1943) was an American politician who was elected 53rd Governor of Virginia in 1937, during the Great Depression and became known as the Commonwealth's "New Deal Governor." Over the opposition of the Byrd Organization, Price, a Virginia attorney and businessman, passed many social programs and implemented other federal programs to benefit Virginians. Price had previously represented Richmond as one of its delegates in the Virginia House of Delegates for over a decade (1916–1930), as well as served as Lieutenant Governor for two terms beginning in 1930. James Price (born 27 October 1981) is an English footballer who played at the right or centre of defence for Scarborough Athletic, in the Northern Premier League Division One North. Price has made over 150 appearances in the Football League and Football Conference.
