James Powers (New York Politician)
James Powers (October 1785 – January 3, 1868) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life He was the son of William Powers (c. 1745–1796) and Rhoda (Deane) Powers (1759–1828). He married Nancy Day (1787–1826), and they had three daughters. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Greene Co.) in 1816 and 1822. He was a member of the New York State Senate (3rd D.) from 1836 to 1839, sitting in the 59th, 60th, 61st and 62nd New York State Legislatures. John Beardsley (New York Politician)
John Beardsley (November 9, 1783 – May 11, 1857) was an American farmer, merchant, banker and politician from New York. Life He was born on November 9, 1783, in Southbury, Connecticut, the son of Eliakim Beardsley (1744–1798) and Esther (Sherman) Beardsley (1748–1822). On December 16, 1804, he married Alice Booth (1786–1877), and they had twelve children. In 1808, the family removed to that part of the Town of Scipio, New York, which was in 1823 separated as the Town of Venice. From 1820 to 1823, he was an associate judge of the Cayuga County Court. Erastus Root (March 16, 1773 – December 24, 1846) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He is most notable for serving four separate non-consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives in the early 19th Century. Early life Root was born on March 16, 1773, in Hebron in the Connecticut Colony. He was a son of William Root (1731–1790) and Zeruiah ( née Baldwin) Root (1729–1792). He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1793 and became a teacher. Then he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1796, and commenced practice in Delhi, New York. Catskill (village), New York
Catskill is a village and county seat of Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 4,081 at the 2010 census, down from 4,392 in 2000. The village is in the northeastern part of the town of Catskill. History Most of the village land was purchased from the natives in 1684. At the end of the American Revolution there were only ten houses in the community. The village was incorporated in 1806. Catskill is one of only twelve villages in New York still incorporated under a charter, the other villages having been incorporated or reincorporated under the provisions of state village law.
