James Paul McCartney (TV Special)
''James Paul McCartney'' is the title of a 1973 television special produced by ATV and starring English musician Paul McCartney and his then current rock group Wings. It was first broadcast on 16 April 1973 in the United States on the ABC network, and was later broadcast in the United Kingdom on 10 May 1973. It was issued on DVD (its first home video release of any kind) as part of the super-deluxe ''Red Rose Speedway'' box set in December 2018. Background Paul McCartney agreed to star in a television special for the British ATV company in order to settle his two-year legal dispute with Sir Lew Grade. As the owner of the network and its music publishing division – and, by extension, the Beatles' Northern Songs catalogue – Grade had objected to McCartney crediting his wife Linda as his co-writer since 1971, citing her lack of professional experience as a songwriter and musician. McCartney's commitment to the television project allowed him to retain the second composer's pub ...

However, the core trio of the McCartneys and Laine remained intact throughout the group's existence. Created following the McCartneys' 1971 album ''Ram (album), Ram'', the band's first two albums, ''Wild Life (Wings album), Wild Life'' (1971) and ''Red Rose Speedway'' (1973) (the latter featuring guitarist Henry McCullough), were viewed as artistic disappointments beside Paul's work with the Beatles. "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is a song written by Paul and Linda McCartney and released as a non-album single by the British–American rock band Wings in March 1972. It is based on the traditional nursery rhyme of the same name. Background At the time, some observers such as Roy Carr and Tony Tyler of '' New Musical Express'' presumed the song was recorded by McCartney in response to the BBC ban of his previous single, the political "Give Ireland Back to the Irish", but McCartney has denied this, saying that it was a sincere effort to write a song for children.Garbarini, Vic (1980). ''The McCartney Interview'' nterview LP Columbia Records. Michelle (song)
"Michelle" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1965 album '' Rubber Soul''. It was composed principally by Paul McCartney, with the middle eight co-written with John Lennon. The song is a love ballad with part of its lyrics sung in French. Following its inclusion on ''Rubber Soul'', the song was released as a single in some European countries and in New Zealand, and on an EP in France, in early 1966. It was a number 1 hit for the Beatles in Belgium, France, Norway, the Netherlands and New Zealand. Concurrent recordings of the song by David and Jonathan and the Overlanders were similarly successful in North America and Britain, respectively. "Michelle" won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1967 and has since become one of the most widely recorded of all Beatles songs. Bluebird (Paul McCartney & Wings Song)
"Bluebird" is a song written by Paul and Linda McCartney and originally performed by the British rock band Wings, released on their 1973 album ''Band on the Run''. According to author John Blaney, it was written during a vacation in Jamaica. However, author Vincent Benitez claims the song was written as early as 1970 or 1971, noting that Paul and Linda sang the song during a live interview in New York City in 1971. In Continental Europe it was also released as the B-side of the "Mrs. Vandebilt" single. Recording and music "Bluebird" was reportedly composed by McCartney in 1971, during his holiday in Jamaica. Although much of the ''Band on the Run'' album was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria in August and September 1973, "Bluebird" was completed later in 1973 at AIR Studios in London. The percussionist on the song, Remi Kabaka, was from Lagos but happened to be in London when the song was being recorded. One highlight of the song is a saxophone solo played by session musician Howie Cas ...

Blackbird (Beatles Song)
"Blackbird" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album ''The Beatles'' (also known as "the White Album"). It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney, and performed as a solo piece by McCartney. When discussing the song, McCartney has said that the lyrics were inspired by hearing the call of a blackbird in Rishikesh, India, and by racial tension in the Southern United States. Origins McCartney explained on '' Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road'', aired in 2005, that the guitar accompaniment for "Blackbird" was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's ''Bourrée in E minor'', a well-known lute piece, often played on the classical guitar. As teenagers, he and George Harrison tried to learn ''Bourrée'' as a "show off" piece. The ''Bourrée'' is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the ''Bourrée'' (reharmonised into the original's relative maj ...

Big Barn Bed
"Big Barn Bed" is a song by Paul McCartney and Wings from the band's 1973 album '' Red Rose Speedway''. The songwriting credits are attributed to Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney. Background Like the ''Red Rose Speedway'' tracks "Get On the Right Thing" and " Little Lamb Dragonfly", "Big Barn Bed" was a leftover from the McCartneys' solo career. The song dates back to 1971, with the opening lines of the track constituting the coda to the "Ram On" reprise on the McCartneys' album '' Ram''. However, during the recording sessions for ''Red Rose Speedway'', the song was recorded by the band for the new album. "Big Barn Bed" was originally intended to be the opening track of the double-LP version of ''Red Rose Speedway'', but although the final album was cut down to a single disc, the song remained the album's opener. A live version of "Big Barn Bed" was also included as the opening track in the '' James Paul McCartney'' television special, broadcast on 10 May 1973. Throughout the p ...

Red Rose Speedway
''Red Rose Speedway'' is the second studio album by the British–American rock band Wings, although credited to "Paul McCartney and Wings". The album was released by Beatles-owned label Apple Records in April 1973, preceded by its lead single, the ballad " My Love". By including McCartney's name in the artist credit, the single and album broke with the tradition of Wings' previous records. The change was made in the belief that the public's unfamiliarity with the band had been responsible for the weak commercial performance of the group's 1971 debut album '' Wild Life''. Before recording the album, Wings recruited lead guitarist Henry McCullough and released their debut single, "Give Ireland Back to the Irish", which was banned by the BBC for its political message. Recording sessions for the album took place throughout 1972 at five recording studios in London. The group also recorded the non-album singles "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "Hi, Hi, Hi" and " Live and Let Die", the last of ...

Magical Mystery Tour (film)
''Magical Mystery Tour'' is a 1967 British made-for-television musical film directed by and starring the Beatles. It is the third film that starred the band and depicts a group of people on a coach tour who experience strange happenings caused by magicians. The premise was inspired by Ken Kesey's '' Furthur'' adventures with the Merry Pranksters and the then-popular coach trips from Liverpool to see the Blackpool Lights. Paul McCartney is credited with conceptualising and leading the project. Much of ''Magical Mystery Tour'' was shot in and around RAF West Malling, a decommissioned military airfield in Kent, and the script was largely improvised. Shooting proceeded on the basis of a mostly handwritten collection of ideas, sketches and situations. The film is interspersed with musical interludes, which include the Beatles performing "I Am the Walrus" wearing animal masks and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band performing Vivian Stanshall and Neil Innes' "Death Cab for Cutie". The film or ...

Northern Songs
Northern Songs Ltd was a limited company founded in 1963, by Music publisher (popular music), music publisher Dick James, artist manager Brian Epstein, and songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles, to publish songs written by Lennon–McCartney, Lennon and McCartney. In 1965, it was decided to make Northern Songs a public company, to reduce their income tax burden. After Epstein died in 1967, Lennon and McCartney sought to renegotiate their publishing deal with James but, early in 1969, James and his partner sold their shares in Northern Songs to Britain's Associated Television (ATV), without warning Lennon or McCartney. Lennon and McCartney attempted to gain a controlling interest in Northern Songs but their bid failed, because the financial power of Lew Grade ensured that Northern Songs passed into the control of ATV. Allen Klein (then ''de facto'' Beatles manager) attempted to set up a deal for Apple Corps to buy out ATV, but that also failed. McCartney once ...
