James P. Latta
James Polk Latta (October 31, 1844 – September 11, 1911) was a Nebraska Democratic politician. Born near Ashland, Ohio, he moved with his parents to Jackson County, Iowa, in 1846. He attended school and worked on a farm. In 1863 he moved to the Nebraska Territory to teach school in Tekamah, Nebraska. He farmed and raised stock in Burt County, Nebraska, eventuality becoming interested in banking. He organized the First National Bank of Tekamah in 1890 and served as its president until his death. He was elected to the Nebraska House of Representatives in 1887 and to the Nebraska Senate in 1907. He ran and won to represent as a democrat Nebraska's 3rd district to the Sixty-first and Sixty-second Congresses serving from March 4, 1909, to his death on September 11, 1911, in Rochester, Minnesota. John Frank Boyd
John Frank Boyd (August 8, 1853 – May 28, 1945) was a Nebraska Republican politician. Born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, on August 8, 1853, he moved with his parents to Henry County, Illinois, in 1857. There he attended public schools and Abingdon College (which was later consolidated with Eureka College) where he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1878. He first set up practice in Galva, Illinois, and then in 1883 Oakdale, Nebraska. He became prosecuting attorney of Antelope County, Nebraska, in 1888 and served until 1894. He moved to Neligh, Nebraska, in 1901. In 1900 he became judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court of Nebraska and served until 1907 when he was elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth Congress (March 4, 1907 – March 3, 1909) representing the third district. He lost to James P. Latta in the 1908 election, and resumed his practice of law in Neligh. He retired and moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1929. He died there on May 28, 1945, and is ... Burt County, Nebraska
Burt County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska, bordering the west bank of the upper Missouri River. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 6,858. Its county seat is Tekamah. The county was formed in 1854 and named after Francis Burt, the first governor of Nebraska Territory. In the Nebraska license plate system, Burt County is represented by the prefix 31 (it had the 31st-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). Geography According to the US Census Bureau, the county has an area of , of which is land and (1.1%) is water. Its east boundary line is formed by the western border of the state of Iowa, a boundary mostly aligning with the Missouri River. The Political Graveyard is a website and database that catalogues information on more than 277,000 American political figures and political families, along with other information. The name comes from the website's inclusion of burial locations of the deceased (when known).
