James O. Barrows
James Otis Barrows (March 29, 1855 - December 7, 1925) was an American stage and film actor. He spent much of his adult life in the legitimate theater from the Victorian to Edwardian to Georgian eras. Barrows debuted "as a super" at the California Theatre in San Francisco, after which he acted with a touring stock company in the Northwest before returning to San Francisco to act in stock productions at the Baldwin Theatre and the Grand Opera House. Later, he acted in Boston with the Castle Square Theatre's stock company before partnering with John Lancaster and moving into vaudeville to do dramatic sketches. He spent half a dozen years in vaudeville. In 1919 he began appearing in silent feature films playing elderly roles much like theater colleagues of his generation i.e. Melbourne MacDowell, Ida Waterman, Joseph J. Copperopolis, California
Copperopolis is an unincorporated town and census-designated place (CDP) in Calaveras County, California, United States. The population was 3,671 at the 2010 census, up from 2,363 at the 2000 census. The town is located along State Route 4 and is registered as California Historical Landmark #296. History Unlike most of the mining towns in the Calaveras County, Copperopolis' claim to fame is not gold, but copper. It was founded in 1860 by William K. Reed, Dr. Allen Blatchly, and Thomas McCarty, at the site of the second major discovery of copper ore in the region (the first was nearby Telegraph City). William K. Reed and Thomas McCarty founded the Union Copper Mine (and later the Keystone & Empire mines). ''The Pride of Palomar'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by Frank Borzage and written by Grant Carpenter, Peter B. Kyne, and John Lynch. The film stars Forrest Stanley, Marjorie Daw, Tote Du Crow, James O. Barrows, Joseph J. Dowling, and Alfred Allen. The film was released on November 26, 1922, by Paramount Pictures. A print of this film is preserved in the Library of Congress collection. Set at the "Rancho El Palomar", it was filmed largely at Rancho Guajome and Mission San Luis Rey in Vista and Oceanside, CA, respectively. As such, it gives some valuable glimpses of these two historical sites as they were about a century ago (though the back of the ranch building was stuccoed for the movie, which one can still see at Guajome). It also shows a few scenes featuring Pullman porters and dining cars of the 1920s. The movie was unusual in showing some kind of themed background to the intertitles.
