James Monroe High School is located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It is a four-year public high school in the Fredericksburg City Schools system. The school is named after James Monroe. The current school building opened to students in September 2006. James Monroe High School is part of the VHSL AA Battlefield District. James Monroe High School is fully accredited by the Virginia State Department of Education. History Opened in 1920, the building now known as Maury School was Fredericksburg's first real high school. It was originally called Fredericksburg High School, but in 1939, this name was changed to honor the nation's fifth president, James Monroe, who had his law office in the city from 1786-89. George Coghill
George Coghill (born March 3, 1970) is a former American football safety for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League and the Scottish Claymores (of the World League). He played college football at Wake Forest and high school football at James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Herbert Howard Hash (February 13, 1911 – May 20, 2008) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1940 to 1941 for the Boston Red Sox. He was born in Woolwine, Virginia. Early life Hash was born near the location of the present day Woolwine Elementary School. Randolph Rutherford Heflin (September 11, 1918 – August 17, 1999) was an American professional baseball player, a right-handed pitcher who appeared in 25 games in Major League Baseball for the 1945– 46 Boston Red Sox. Heflin's pro career extended from 1939 to 1952, although he missed the 1943–44 seasons while serving in the United States Navy during World War II. Jack Rose (guitarist)
Jack Rose (February 16, 1971 – December 5, 2009) was an American guitarist originally from Virginia and later based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rose is best known for his solo acoustic guitar work. He was also a member of the noise/ drone band Pelt. Career Pelt and beyond In 1993, Jack Rose joined the noise/drone band Pelt with Michael Gangloff and Patrick Best. Then influenced by punk and rock and roll initially, the trio, sometimes joined by friends including Mikel Dimmick and Jason Bill (also of Charalambides), released their first album in 1995.
