James Medway
James Medway (born 8 June 1992) is an Australian representative rower. He was twice a silver medallist at U/23 World Championships and was a reserve for the Australian 2016 Olympic rowing squad. Varsity and state rowing Medway was educated at Sydney Grammar School where he took up rowing. He studied and rowed at Harvard University and was seated in the Harvard men's senior eight in 2015. His Australian senior club rowing has been from the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney. Following his studies at Harvard, Medway made state selection for New South Wales in their 2016 men's eight which took second place in that year's King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. International representative rowing Medway made his Australian representative debut in the coxless four at the World Rowing U23 Championships in 2013. That crew rowed to a silver medal. UTS Haberfield Rowing Club
UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney was formed as Haberfield Rowing Club in 1925. It has occupied its current site on Port Jackson's, Iron Cove at Dobroyd Point since 1926. The club had a senior and lightweight Sydney premiership & national competition focus until 1992 when it became aligned with the University of Technology, Sydney and since then it has also been a varsity club. Its elite program has enjoyed great success since the 1990s with a number of the club's oarsmen and women making Australian Olympic selection since then. History The Haberfield Rowing Club campus was formed by charter in 1925 but had some initial difficulties in getting council approval for its clubhouse site. In early 1926 it opened its £1,300 club house at Dobroyd Point. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. Joshua Hicks
Joshua Hicks (born 29 April 1991) is an Australian representative rower. He is an Olympian and a two-time world champion who won gold in the coxless four at the 2017 World Rowing Championships and defended that title at Plovdiv in 2018. He competed in the Australian men's coxless pair at Tokyo 2021. Club and state rowing A Western Australian, Hicks was educated at Trinity College, Perth where he took up rowing. He won a collegiate rowing scholarship to Harvard University. There he rowed in Harvard's senior varsity eight in his second year of 2011. 2019 World Rowing Championships
The 2019 World Rowing Championships were held in Ottensheim, Austria from 25 August to 1 September 2019. Apart from Ottensheim, the right to host the championships was contested by Hamburg in Germany, Račice in the Czech Republic, and Varese in Italy. The event determined the majority of qualifiers to the rowing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. On 21 August, three days before the championships, para-rower Dzmitry Ryshkevich from Belarus died after he capsized during a training session. Karsten Forsterling
Karsten Forsterling (born 21 January 1980) is an Australian former representative rower. He was a national champion, world champion, a dual Olympian and Olympic medal winner. He represented Australia at eight senior world rowing championships between 2002 and 2019 in both sculling and sweep oared boats. Education Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Forsterling was schooled at St Vincent's Primary in the ACT and took up rowing in high school at the Melbourne Grammar School. He graduated from Monash University in Melbourne with a B.Engineering in 2001, and at one time worked for the multinational consulting firm AECOM.
