James McSherry Jr.
James McSherry Jr. (July 29, 1819 – July 13, 1869) was an American lawyer and writer. Early life James McSherry Jr. was born on July 29, 1819, in Libertytown, Maryland, to Ann Ridgely (née Sappington) and James McSherry (Pennsylvania politician), James McSherry. His brother was William McSherry (Pennsylvania politician), William McSherry. His grandfather was Francis Brown Sappington. He graduated from Mount St. Mary's University, Mount St. Mary's College, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in 1838, where he studied law. He read law in Frederick, Maryland, Frederick and was admitted to the bar in 1840. Career McSherry began practicing law in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with Thaddeus Stevens. He returned to Frederick in 1841. He continued to practice law in Frederick, until his death. McSherry is best known for his "History of Maryland" (Baltimore, 1849). Libertytown, Maryland
Libertytown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Frederick County, in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 950. The Abraham Jones House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Geography The community is in eastern Frederick County, along Maryland Route 26 (Liberty Road), which leads east to Baltimore and southwest to Frederick. Maryland Route 75 crosses MD 26 in the center of town, leading northeast to Union Bridge and south to New Market. Maryland Route 31 intersects MD 26 on the east edge of town and leads northeast to Westminster. Maryland Route 550 leaves MD 26 in the western part of town and leads northwest to Woodsboro.
