Logan (Iroquois Leader)
Logan the Orator (c. 1723–1780) was a Cayuga orator and war leader born of one of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. After his 1760s move to the Ohio Country, he became affiliated with the Mingo, a tribe formed from Seneca, Cayuga, Lenape and other remnant peoples. He took revenge for family members killed by Virginian Long knives in 1774 in what is known as the Yellow Creek Massacre. His actions against settlers on the frontier helped spark Dunmore's War later that year. Logan became known for a speech, later known as ''Logan's Lament'', which he reportedly delivered after the war. Scholars dispute important details about Logan, including his original name and whether the words of ''Logan's Lament'' were his. James Edwin Graham Logan (born 12 October 1997) is an English professional cricketer who played for Kent between 2021 and 2023, and Yorkshire between 2018 and 2020. Logan was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and played for Yorkshire's age group and Academy teams, as well as the club's Second XI. A slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in the 2018 County Championship on 24 September 2018. James Richardson Logan (born 10 April 1819 in Berwickshire, Scotland, died 20 October 1869 in Penang, Straits Settlements) was a lawyer who popularised the name Indonesia after it was coined by the English ethnologist George Windsor Earl. James Harvey Logan (December 8, 1841 - July 16, 1928) was a judge in Santa Cruz, California, and an amateur botanist credited with the 1881 creation of the loganberry, a cross between the raspberry and the blackberry. He was District Attorney in the 1870s and a Superior Court Judge during the 1880s and 1890s. Biography He was born on December 8, 1841, in Rockville, Indiana. After moving to Santa Cruz, Logan was elected District Attorney on 1 September 1875. He had been endorsed by both the Democrats and the Independent ticket. He had previously served as District Attorney in 1872 and 1873. Logan was subsequently elected to the Superior Court and served several terms as judge, from 1880 to 1884 and from 1893 to 1897. Logan built the Brookdale, California, Brookdale Lodge on the site of the Grover Lumber Mill in the 1890s, purchased the Brookdale Town Site in 1902, put in a wagon road and had a cottage built in 1905, and had lots laid out in 1907. James Logan (1797–1872) was a Scottish author on Gaelic culture, best known for his 1831 book '' The Scottish Gael''. Life Logan was born in Aberdeen, where his father was a merchant; he was educated at Aberdeen grammar school and Marischal College. A sports injury made him give up a potential career as a lawyer. In London with the support of Lord Aberdeen, Logan studied at the Royal Academy. He became a journalist, and then a clerk in an architect's office. He was employed for a time by the Highland Society of London, but never settled to a career. A brother of the London Charterhouse, he was expelled in 1866. With Scottish patrons, he sustained a fair standard of living, and died in London in April 1872. Captain Logan ( 1776 – November 25, 1812), also known as Spemica Lawba ("High Horn"), James Logan, or simply Logan, was a Shawnee warrior who lived in what became the U.S. state of Ohio. Although he opposed the expansion of the United States into Shawnee lands, after the Treaty of Greenville (1795), he was one of many Shawnees who sought to preserve Shawnee independence by maintaining peaceful relations with the United States. When the War of 1812 came to Ohio, Logan served as a scout and guide for the Americans. After he was killed in a skirmish with British-allied Natives, he was buried with military honors by the Americans, becoming "the foremost Indian hero on the American side of that conflict."
