James Linger
James Linger (born 6 September 1990, in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia) is an Australian former professional baseball player. He was signed to the Atlanta Braves organisation and plays second base for the GCL Braves. Career Linger played Baseball for Norths in the Far North Coast Baseball Association competition, and also for the Queensland Rams in the 2008 Claxton Shield, batting at .394. He was then scouted by Phil Dale and signed with the Braves for $120,000 over five years. James then joined the Australian national baseball team for the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament at just 17 years of age, making him the youngest player to play for Australia. He was named as Young Player of the Year at the Baseball Australia Diamond Awards. In 2009, he had another solid tournament in the 2009 Claxton Shield, hitting .268 for the Rams. Phil Stockman
Phillip Matthew Stockman (born 25 January 1980) is an English born Australian former pitcher in Major League Baseball. Amateur career Although Stockman was born in England, he grew up in Australia and is a graduate of Beenleigh State High School in Brisbane, Australia, and he has represented that country as a member of Australia's national baseball team. While with the team, Stockman won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and he was also a participant in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Professional career Originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, Stockman was a Texas League All-Star in 2003, while working as a starting pitcher for the El Paso Diablos. 2009 Claxton Shield
The 2009 Diamond Anniversary Claxton Shield was the 75-year anniversary of the Claxton Shield and was held from 2 December 2008 to 8 February 2009 and was the Shield's Diamond anniversary. The Perth Heat won the tournament after defeating the New South Wales Patriots 3–2 in the third game of a best of three series. Overview The 2009 Shield series excluded the Australian Provincial baseball team and consisted of four, three-game series against each team including a two home, two away and a bye round for each of the teams. On top of this to start off the tournament, there was also a showcase round where each team played each other once. To celebrate the 75th anniversary, the showcase round also hosted a variety of other events such as a Home Run Derby. 2010 Claxton Shield
The 2010 Claxton Shield was the 76th Claxton Shield tournament, the premier baseball competition in Australia, and was held from 6 November 2009 to 7 February 2010. It was hailed as the precursor to the new Australian Baseball League that would start in the place of the Claxton Shield in late 2010 to early 2011. The Victoria Aces defeated South Australia two games to nil in the championship series to win the tournament; this was the 22nd time the Claxton Shield had been awarded to a Victorian team. The competition was sponsored by Domino's Pizza. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Victoria Aces finished in first place with a 17–7 record, earning home-field advantage for the three-game championship series. Justin Patrick Huber (; born 1 July 1982) is an Australian former professional baseball player. A first baseman and outfielder, Huber has played in Major League Baseball, Nippon Professional Baseball, and the Australian Baseball League. 2009 Baseball World Cup
The 2009 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 38th international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The 2009 tournament was held, for the first time, across a continent — with games played in 27 cities across eight European countries, from September 9 to 27. The final was a repeat of the previous BWC final, with the United States again defeating Cuba, winning its fourth title. There were 22 participating countries (which stands as the most ever in tournament history), with 20 teams split into five groups for the first round, after which "official" host Italy and 2007 European Champion Netherlands joined the advancing 14 teams in the second round. Australian National Baseball Team
The Australian national baseball team represents Australia in international baseball tournaments and competitions. It is ranked as the top team in Oceania, and is the Oceanian Champion, having been awarded the title in 2007 when New Zealand withdrew from the Oceania Baseball Championship. After achieving a last (16th) place in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, its rank dropped to 13, which is the lowest rank Australia ever received.
