James Lee (screenwriter)
James Henderson Lee III (January 4, 1923 – July 2, 2002) was an American screenwriter. He is best known for writing several episodes of the 1977 TV miniseries ''Roots''. Career Born in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan, James Lee graduated from Harvard University and initially worked as a stage actor in New York. Not finding much success, he turned to screenwriting to supplement his income. His fifth play ''Career'', which drew on his experiences as a struggling actor, was an Off Broadway hit. Lee went on to write the screenplay for the 1959 film of the same name, starring Dean Martin, Tony Franciosa, and Shirley MacLaine. Moving into television, Lee wrote four episodes of the anthology series '' Omnibus''. One of these, "Capital Punishment", won an Edgar Award for Best Episode in a TV Series. James Lee (born August 17, 1985) is a professional Canadian football offensive tackle for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at South Carolina State. James Matthew Lee, (born March 29, 1937) is a former politician who was the 26th premier of Prince Edward Island from 1981 to 1986. He was the leader of the PEI Progressive Conservative Party from 1981 to 1987. James Paris Lee (9 August 1831 – 24 February 1904) was a British Canadian and later American inventor and arms designer. He is best known for having invented the action and magazine that are used in the Lee–Metford and Lee–Enfield series of rifles. Early life and career Born in Hawick, Scotland, Lee emigrated with his family to Galt, Ontario, in Canada in 1836 at age 5. He built his first gun at the age of 12, using an old horse-pistol barrel, a newly carved walnut stock, and a priming pan made from a halfpenny.
