James Lang (basketball)
James Lang (born October 17, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Washington Wizards. Professional career He was selected with the 19th pick of the second round (48th pick overall) of the 2003 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets, but was waived in December of that year after back injuries kept him sidelined and after GM Bob Bass proclaimed that Lang did not show "the potential to be put on the active roster". Lang attended pre-season camp with the Utah Jazz in 2005 but did not make the team. The Toronto Raptors signed Lang to a 10-day contract on March 27, 2006, and he was waived after this contract. Lang had averaged 8.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in 32 games for the Arkansas RimRockers of the NBA Developmental League during the 2006 season. James Joseph Lang (March 1851 – 14 July 1929) was a Scottish international footballer who represented Scotland twice from 1876 to 1878. Early life Lang was born in March 1851 in Scotland. Before his football career, he worked at the John Brown & Company's shipyard on the River Clyde in Glasgow, where he lost sight in one eye due to an accident in 1869. Football career Club career Lang's playing career started with Glasgow's Eastern, from where he moved to Clydesdale and then Third Lanark. While with Clydesdale he played in the first ever Scottish Cup final in 1874, losing 2–0 against Queen's Park. He also became involved with the Glasgow vs. Sheffield association matches, and at the 1876 meeting (in which Glasgow won 2–0) he caught the attention of The Wednesday board. James Neil Lang (2 May 1900 – 1973) was an English first-class cricketer who played eight matches for Worcestershire in the early 1920s. He was born in Ludlow, Shropshire and died at Birmingham, Warwickshire. Lang was not particularly successful, averaging over 50 with his left-arm spin and never reaching double figures with the bat. Jim Lang (1 October 1909 – 22 December 1991) was a Welsh international rugby union number 8 who played club rugby for Llanelli and Swansea. Whilst with Llanelli he faced two touring Southern Hemisphere teams, the South Africans in 1931 and New Zealand in 1935. Rugby career Lang was first capped for Wales in the 1931 Five Nations Championship in a game against France. Under the captaincy of Jack Bassett, Wales won the game with ease, running in seven tries. Lang was reselected two weeks later to face the Irish at Ravenhill, and when Wales won the game they also won the tournament. Lang would remain unselected for his country for another four years, but in 1931 he played for Llanelli when they hosted the touring South Africans. James Christian Lang (25 March 1910 – 14 December 2002), usually known as Chris Lang, was an Australian politician. The son of Jack Lang, Premier of New South Wales 1925–27 and 1930–32, he succeeded his father as the member for Auburn in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, serving from 1946 to 1950. Born in Homebush, Lang was educated at North Auburn Public School and Burwood Intermediate High School before entering his father's real estate business, Lang and Daes, in 1925. In 1930, he became the manager, remaining so until 1958, when he became the manager of his own real estate company until 1962. James T. Laing is a Canadian sportscaster and radio station owner who spent the 1966-67 NHL season as the radio play by play voice for the Boston Bruins. Broadcasting career A native of Weyburn, Laing's career began in 1962 calling junior hockey games in Saskatchewan. While calling games for the Estevan Bruins, Boston Bruins President Weston Adams heard Laing's play by play on scouting trips. Adams was very impressed with Laing's impartiality, especially in games between Estevan and their rivals, the Weyburn Red Wings. According to Boston Bruins announcer Fred Cusick, Laing "was a dead ringer, in voice and inflection, for Foster Hewitt, Canada's legendary hockey announcer". He was hired by Adams in 1966 to call Bruins games on radio. Laing was 23 years old at the time of his hiring. He was known to listeners in the San Francisco and Los Angeles radio markets with stints at several stations in both markets, racking up over 45 years on the air. Lange was also known to television viewers as the host of several game shows, including ''The Dating Game''.
