James Kirton (died 1620)
Sir James Kirton (died 1620) of Almsford Park, Somerset was an English estate administrator, landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1593 and 1614. Biography Kirton was the son of Edward Kirton (died 1601) of Almsford and his wife Lettice Gilbanke. After a period of study at the Temple, he entered the service of the Earl of Hertford in about 1582. In 1593, he was elected Member of Parliament for Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire. He stated that from 1599 to 1608 he was employed in the matters of greatest trust on behalf of the Earl. In 1601 he was elected MP for Ludgershall, also in Wiltshire, and then re-elected in 1604. In 1605 he was employed as the steward of the Earl of Hertford when he was ambassador to Brussels for a short time. He was re-elected a third time for Ludgershall in 1614. In 1618 he was knighted and became J.P. for Somerset until 1619. Kirton died in 1620 and was buried in St Botolph's, Aldgate. At his death he owned the hou ... Sir Anthony Hungerford (1567–1627) of Black Bourton in Oxfordshire, Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire until 1624, was a member of parliament and a religious controversialist. Origins Hungerford was born in 1567 at Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire, the son of Anthony Hungerford (died 1589) of Down Ampney in Gloucestershire, a descendant of Sir Edmund Hungerford, second son of Walter Hungerford, 1st Baron Hungerford of Farleigh and Heytesbury. His mother was Bridget Shelley, daughter of John Shelley, and granddaughter of Sir William Shelley, Justice of the Common Pleas. His father was a Puritan, but his mother was a devout Roman Catholic, the religion in which Hungerford was raised. William Sotwell
William Sotwell (1571–1639) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1621 and 1624. Biography Sotwell, born on 23 November 1571, was the eldest son of John Sotwell, clerk, of Penistone, Yorkshire, and Andover, Hants, and Mary, daughter of Christopher Ellis of Rothwell, Yorkshire. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford (1590) and Lincoln's Inn (1590) and was called to the bar in 1598. Sotwell was a landowner of Greenham, Berkshire. He also inherited property at North Tidworth and Andover. In 1621, he was elected Member of Parliament for Ludgershall. He was re-elected for the seat in 1624. He died on 18 June 1639. Charles Danvers (MP For Ludgershall)
Charles Danvers (by 1580 – 21 October 1626), of Baynton, Edington, Wiltshire and the Middle Temple, London, was an English politician. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Ludgershall in 1614. Danvers married one Mary, of Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire, in 1605 and they had five sons and nine daughters. He died at his house at Baynton on 21 October 1626 and was buried in Edington church. Danvers had a fondness for the poet and priest George Herbert George Herbert (3 April 1593 – 1 March 1633) was an English poet, orator, and priest of the Church of England. His poetry is associated with the writings of the metaphysical poets, and he is recognised as "one of the foremost British devoti ..., a distant relative, and had expressed a desire for him to marry one of his daughters. Henry Ludlow (c. 1577 – 13 October 1639) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1601 and 1611. Ludlow was the son of Sir Edmund Ludlow and his first wife Bridget Coker, daughter of Henry Coker of Mappowder, Dorset. He was educated at Hart Hall, Oxford in 1591 and at Middle Temple in 1595. In 1601, he was elected Member of Parliament for Andover. He was elected MP for Ludgershall in 1604. Sir Edmund Ludlow (bef. 1548 – 1624) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1571 and 1622. Ludlow was born before 1548, the eldest son of George Ludlow of Hill Deverill, Wiltshire, and his wife Edith, daughter of Andrew Windsor, 1st Baron Windsor of Stanwell, Middlesex. In 1571, he was elected Member of Parliament for Old Sarum. He succeeded to the estates of his father in June 1580 and was a J.P. for Wiltshire from that time on. He was High Sheriff of Wiltshire from 1586 to 1587. In 1597 he was elected MP for Ludgershall. He was knighted on 14 September 1601. In 1604 he was elected MP for Hindon, and was re-elected in 1614. During his life he was involved in numerous lawsuits, and was conspicuously intractable with regard to matters of money and property. He lived at Maiden Bradley, Wiltshire in his later years.
