James Hutchins Johnson
James Hutchins Johnson (June 3, 1802 – September 2, 1887) was a businessman, militia officer, and politician from Bath, New Hampshire. Among the offices in which he served was U.S. Representative from 1845 to 1849. Early life Johnson was born in Bath, New Hampshire on June 3, 1802. He was educated in Bath's public schools, and then became a merchant and businessman. Among his ventures were a store and sawmill. from the mid-1820s to the mid-1830s he resided in Lisbon, New Hampshire, afterwards returning to Bath. Military career In 1826, Johnson joined the New Hampshire Militia's 32nd Regiment as its paymaster. He later served as its adjutant, and eventually commanded the regiment with the rank of colonel. James Coody Johnson (1864 – February 1927) was an African-Creek entrepreneur, interpreter, lawyer and politician. He was a leading advocate for African-American rights and dual citizen of the Creek and Seminole nations. Early life James Coody Johnson was born in 1864 at Fort Gibson to Robert Johnson, an African-Creek interpreter to the Seminole nation, and Elizabeth Davis Johnson. She was the daughter of Sarah Davis, a leading free African-Creek merchant who had purchased her freedom and that of her two daughters. Sarah Davis owned and operated a hotel in the Creek Agency village in present-day Arkansas. Johnson grew up speaking Seminole and English. He was educated at the Presbyterian Mission near Wewoka. The Seminole nation sponsored his college education at Lincoln University, a historically black college (HBCU) in Pennsylvania. James Johnson (16 September 1908 – 31 January 1995) was a British Labour Party politician and Member of Parliament (MP). He was born to the family of a Northumberland miner and was educated at Duke's School, Alnwick, and Leeds University. He played football for the English Universities XI and the Corinthians. Johnson was a lecturer in social studies at Coventry Technical College and an official for the National Union of General and Municipal Workers in Kenya. He served as a councillor on Coventry City Council. Johnson was first elected to the House of Commons at the 1950 general election, as MP for Rugby. He was re-elected at the 1951 and 1955 elections, but at the 1959 general election, he lost his seat to the Conservative Party candidate Roy Wise by a margin of only 470 votes. James Johnson (February 12, 1811 – November 20, 1891) was a U.S. Representative from Georgia and served as the 43rd Governor of Georgia between June and October 1865. Early life Johnson was born in 1811 in Robeson County, North Carolina to Peter and Nancy McNeill Johnson, whose parents had come from Scotland. The Johnsons moved from North Carolina to Henry County, Georgia, the newly created county by the Georgia General Assembly's Land Lottery Act of 1821 from previously Indian-held territory between the Ocmulgee and Flint rivers. He graduated from Franklin College (the predecessor of the University of Georgia) in 1832 with his classmates Alexander H. Stephens, Crawford W. Long, and William H. Crawford. James Johnson (January 1, 1774 – August 13, 1826) was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky, brother of Richard Mentor Johnson and John Telemachus Johnson and uncle of Robert Ward Johnson. Born in Orange County in the Virginia Colony, Johnson moved with his father to Kentucky in 1779. He pursued preparatory studies. He was a member of the State senate in 1808. He served as lieutenant colonel in the War of 1812 and fought alongside his brother Richard at the Battle of the Thames. He was a contractor for furnishing supplies to troops on the western frontier in 1819 and 1820. James Johnson (unknown – December 7, 1825) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia. Biography Born in Virginia, Johnson completed preparatory studies. He graduated from the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, about 1795. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar and practiced in Williamsburg. He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention, 1788. He served as member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1797 to 1804, 1806, 1807, and 1809–1813. In 1807, he moved to Isle of Wight County, Virginia and continued the practice of law.
