James Jack (trade Unionist)

Jack grew up in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire and attended St John's Grammar School in Hamilton. He was elected as General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) in 1963, and served until 1975. Following his retirement, he served on a large number of committees, including the Scottish Development Agency, Scottish Oil Development Council, and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. He stepped down from the last of these positions in 1983, and died four years later.JACK, James

The Scots ( sco, Scots Fowk; gd, Albannaich) are an ethnic group and nation native to Scotland. Historically, they emerged in the early Middle Ages from an amalgamation of two Celtic-speaking peoples, the Picts and Gaels, who founded the Kingdom of Scotland (or ''Alba'') in the 9th century. With 40 affiliated unions as of 2020, the STUC represents over 540,000 trade unionists. Jimmy Milne (trade Unionist)
Jimmy Milne (1921–1986) was General Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). He died in office. Born in 1921, Milne joined the Communist Party in 1939. He was a patternmaker by trade and first worked at the Hall Russell shipyard. The secretary of Aberdeen Trades Council from 1948 to 1969, he made his mark by working for safer working conditions for fishing trawler crew. But his interests and activities were always very wide; he was a member of the Regional Hospital Board, where he kept up a constant pressure for reforms in the interests of patients. He became a member of the General Council of the STUC in 1954, the youngest person elected to that time. Deputy General Secretary in 1969 and the General Secretary in 1975, Milne was also a member of the Communist Party Executive Committee for a period and the Scottish Committee until his death. General Secretaries Of The Scottish Trades Union Congress
The General Secretary of the STUC is the chief permanent officer of the Scottish Trades Union Congress, and a major figure in the trade union movement in the United Kingdom. The Secretary is responsible for the effective operation of the STUC and for leading implementation of policies set by the annual Congress and the organisation's General Council. They also serve as the STUC's chief representative, both with the public and with other organisations. The position was formed in 1922, when the Parliamentary Committee of the STUC became the General Council.
