John Hislop
James John Henry Hislop (1825 – 23 October 1909) was a convict transported to Western Australia. After the expiry of his sentence, he became the first ex-convict in Western Australia to be appointed a teacher. Life John Hislop was a clerk in the British Army before being sentenced to seven years transportation for an unknown crime. He arrived in Western Australia on board the ''Pyrenees'' in June 1851 and received his ticket of leave on arrival in the colony. In October 1853 he married Bridget Mulqueen, with whom he would have twelve children. Hislop was officially appointed the government schoolteacher at Bunbury in 1853, but it is said that he was already conducting the school before then. He ran the school for nine years, during which time he taught John and Alexander Forrest. Jamie Hislop
James Donald Hislop (born January 20, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played for the Cincinnati Stingers in the World Hockey Association from 1976 to 1979 and then the Quebec Nordiques and Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1979 and 1984. He helped the Flames reach the NHL playoff semifinals for the first time in club history in 1981. After his playing career he worked as an assistant coach with the Flames and then as a scout with the Minnesota Wild. Playing career Born in Sarnia, Ontario, Hislop played junior hockey in Tier II Ontario Hockey Association play. Hislop attended the University of New Hampshire under legendary coach Charlie Holt. James Gordon Hislop (14 August 1895 – 4 May 1972) was an Australian medical doctor and politician who was a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1941 to 1971, representing Metropolitan Province. Before entering politics he was better known as a hospital administrator. James Hyslop (poet)
James Hyslop (23 July 1798 – 1827) was a Scottish poet. Life Born in the parish of Kirkconnel, Dumfriesshire, an illegitimate son of Margaret Lambie (1778–1845) and William Hyslop (born 1775), Hyslop was early put out to farm-work, but taught himself languages and mathematics. From 1812 to 1816 he was engaged as a shepherd on Nether Wellwood farm, in the parish of Muirkirk. Between 1816 and 1818 he was employed at Corsebank; from there he wrote a poetical epistle to his early Kirkconnel teacher, signed "James Hislop", but later always used the spelling "Hyslop". In 1818 Hyslop went to Greenock, where he opened a day-school, and wrote for the '' Edinburgh Magazine''. At first he was fairly successful, but his prospects were blasted by having to pay a large sum for which he had become security. South African Medical Service
The South African Medical Service (SAMS) was a branch of the South African Defence Force (SADF). In 1994 when the SADF was merged with various other military and armed resistance forces as part of the post-apartheid reforms the SAMS became the South African Military Health Service of the South African National Defence Force. The SAMS operated three hospitals, 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria, 2 Military Hospital in Cape Town, and 3 Military Hospital in Bloemfontein. It also had three specialist institutes; the Institute for Aviation Medicine, the Institute for Maritime Medicine, and the Military Psychological Institute.
