James Scott Howard
James Scott Howard (September 2, 1798 – March 1, 1866) was a public servant in Canada West. He served as postmaster in the Town of York and later was the first postmaster in the newly formed City of Toronto government. He lost his position during the Upper Canada Rebellion in 1837. Biography Early and Personal Life Howard was born on September 2, 1798, to John Howard and Mary Scot in Bandon, County Cork in what is now the Republic of Ireland. At 21, he left Ireland in 1819 and briefly settled in Fredericton, New Brunswick. There, he met and married Salome McLean, becoming the son-in-law of Archibald McLean. Together, James and Salome would have three children. Work with the Post Office Howard arrived in the Town of York in 1820, shortly after which he was appointed as a member of staff for the First Toronto Post Office, where he worked under William Allan. James Howard (Whig Politician)
The Honourable James Kenneth Howard (5 March 1814 – 7 January 1882), was a British Whig (British political faction), Whig politician. A member of the Howard family, he was the fourth son of Thomas Howard, 16th Earl of Suffolk, by the Honourable Elizabeth Jane, daughter of James Dutton, 1st Baron Sherborne. He succeeded his elder brother Charles Howard, 17th Earl of Suffolk, Viscount Andover as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Malmesbury (UK Parliament constituency), Malmesbury in 1841, a seat he held until 1852. From 1851 to 1882 he served as a Commissioners of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues, Commissioner of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues. Howard married Lady Louisa, daughter of Henry Petty-FitzMaurice, 3rd Marquess of Lansdowne, in 1845. He died in January 1882, aged 67. Lady Louisa died in June 1906. James Howard (c. 1640 – July 1669) was an English dramatist and member of a Royalist family during the English Civil War and the Restoration. He was the eighth son of Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Berkshire, and Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Exeter. Howard married Charlotte Fitzroy, a daughter of the Stuart King Charles II and Elizabeth Killigrew. Their daughter was named Stuarta.
