James (name)
James is an English language given name of Hebrew origin, most commonly used for males. Etymology It is a modern descendant, through Old French ''James'', of Vulgar Latin ''Iacomus'' (cf. Italian ''Giacomo (name), Giacomo'', Portuguese ''Tiago'', Spanish ''Santiago_(name), Iago, Santiago''), a derivative version of Latin ''Iacobus'', Latin form of the Hebrew language, Hebrew name Jacob (name), ''Jacob'' (original Hebrew: יעקב). The final ''-s'' in the English first names is typical of those borrowed from Old French, where it was the former masculine subject case (cf. Giles (other), Giles, Miles (name), Miles, Charles, etc.). James is a very popular name in English-speaking populations. Since in Spanish and its derivatives the J is pronounced (Kh), many Jews used this name for representing the Hebrew name of Haim, also written as Chaim (pronounced ) or its similar ...

Muscadine
''Vitis rotundifolia'', or muscadine, is a grapevine species native to the southeastern and south-central United States. The growth range extends from Florida to New Jersey coast, and west to eastern Texas and Oklahoma. It has been extensively cultivated since the 16th century. The plants are well-adapted to their native warm and humid climate; they need fewer chilling hours than better known varieties, and thrive in summer heat. Muscadine berries may be bronze or dark purple or black when ripe. Wild varieties may stay green through maturity. Muscadines are typically used in making artisan wines, juice, and jelly. They are rich sources of polyphenols. In a natural setting, muscadine provides wildlife habitat as shelter, browse, and food for many birds and animals. It is also a larval host for the Nessus Sphinx Moth ('' Amphion floridensis'') and the Mournful Sphinx Moth (''Enyo lugubris''). Taxonomy and pathology Although in the same genus ''Vitis'' with the other grapevine s ...

James's Theorem
In mathematics, particularly functional analysis, James' theorem, named for Robert C. James, states that a Banach space X is reflexive if and only if every continuous linear functional on X attains its supremum on the closed unit ball in X. A stronger version of the theorem states that a weakly closed subset C of a Banach space X is weakly compact if and only if each continuous linear functional on X attains a maximum on C. The hypothesis of completeness in the theorem cannot be dropped. Statements The space X considered can be a real or complex Banach space. Its continuous dual space In mathematics, any vector space ''V'' has a corresponding dual vector space (or just dual space for short) consisting of all linear forms on ''V'', together with the vector space structure of pointwise addition and scalar multiplication by const ... is denoted by X^. The topological dual of ℝ-Banach space deduced from X by any restriction scalar will be denoted X^_. (It is of interest on ...

Apache James
Apache James, a.k.a. Java Apache Mail Enterprise Server or some variation thereof, is an open source SMTP and POP3 mail transfer agent and NNTP news server written entirely in Java. James is maintained by contributors to the Apache Software Foundation, with initial contributions by Serge Knystautas. IMAP support has been added as of preview version 3.0-M2, which now requires Java 1.5 or later. The James project manages the Apache Mailet API which defines "matchers" and "mailets". These allow users to write their own mail-handling code, such as to update a database, build a message archive, or filter spam. A matcher is used to classify messages based on some criteria, and then determines whether the message should be passed to an appropriate mailet for processing. Mailets are so-called due to their conceptual similarity to a servlet, and arose because Sun Microsystems declined a proposal to include mail-handling in the servlet implementation. James ships with a variety of pre-wr ...

Offramp (album)
''Offramp'' is the third album by the Pat Metheny Group, released in 1982. It won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance. It contains the popular ballad "Are You Going with Me?". ''Offramp'' is the first studio album on which Metheny used a guitar synthesizer, a Roland GR-300 controlled with a Roland G-303 guitar synthesiser controller. The guitar synthesizer became one of Metheny's most frequently used instruments. ''Offramp'' is also the first Group album to feature vocals, which became a fundamental component of the band's sound. When Metheny and Lyle Mays partnered with Brazilian percussionist Naná Vasconcelos on the album ''As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls'', they sought to expand the potential of the recording studio as an ensemble instrument and experiment with sounds they hadn't previously utilized. Some of the innovations introduced on ''Wichita'' carried over into ''Offramp'', namely Vasconcelos's vocals and percussion stylings. Bassist Mark Egan ...

Come Upstairs
''Come Upstairs'' is the ninth studio album by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Warner Bros. Records, on June 16, 1980. It was the first of her three albums for Warner Bros. and it has a harder, more rock-oriented sound than her previous albums. Whereas those earlier records were prime examples of the singer-songwriter genre, with soft-rocking arrangements primarily built around piano and/or acoustic guitar accompaniment, ''Come Upstairs'' uses electric guitars and synthesizers prominently. The album reached No. 36 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The first single released from the album was "Jesse", an acoustic ballad that was more in the style of Simon's earlier work rather than an example of her new sound. "Jesse" became a major hit, remaining on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart for over six months, peaking at No. 11, and was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of more than 1,000,000 copies in the United States alone. It also reached No. 12 in Canada, ...
