James Forsyth Thallon
James Forsyth Thallon (21 November 1847 – 24 March 1911) was the ninth Commissioner of Queensland Railways, Australia from 1902 to his death in 1911. Early life James Forsyth Thallon was born at Markinch, Fifeshire, Scotland on 21 November 1847. The youngest of seven children, his father an artisan, died shortly before he was born. Raised by his mother, he left school at the age of 14 at which time the family relocated to Edinburgh. Railway career Scotland After plans to become an apprentice architect fell through, young James now 15, entered a clerkship at the head office of the Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee Railway (later North British Railway Company). His work ethic and capabilities quickly saw him rise through the ranks, being appointed as head of the rates and fares branch in 1875. Francis Curnow
Francis Curnow (died 24 April 1901) was the third commissioner of the Queensland Railway Department in Australia. Railway career By 1866 Curnow had settled in Ipswich, Queensland, as a railway storekeeper, a position made necessary by the opening of the Ipswich-Grandchester railway line. He was promoted in January 1877 to the position of Chief Clerk in the Railway Commissioner's Office, a position second only to that of the Commissioner. The offices for the staff of the Secretary for Railways in Queensland were established on the grounds of the original Brisbane Terminal Station at Roma Street, possibly in the early Brisbane Grammar School, resumed for railway purposes. Thallon is a town and a locality in the Shire of Balonne, Queensland, Australia. In the , Thallon had a population of 257 people. There is a second town within the locality, Nindigully. Toowong Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery on the corner of Frederick Street and Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was established in 1866 and formally opened in 1875. Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. These may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin itching and skin rash. Recovery generally takes two to seven days. The McKeen Railmotor was a 6-cylinder self-propelled railcar or railmotor. When McKeen Company of Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.A., first unveiled the car in 1905, the McKeen was among the first engines with a distillate-fueled motor. Revisions to the McKeen car led to the modern self-propelled gasoline rail-motor vehicle, and the "contours of the porthole windows, the front-mounted gasoline engines, and other features anticipated the streamline concept." A rail ambulance is a vehicle used for medical transportation services on Track (rail transport), railway lines. The first rail ambulance in Queensland, Australia, was introduced in 1918, with the last withdrawn from service around 1990.
