James Moore (Cornish Author)
James Harry Manson Moore (16 December 1929 – 11 May 2017) was a Cornish author. He was a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and a leading authority on G. I. Gurdjieff. Life and career Moore was born in Saltash, Cornwall in December 1929. He was a leading authority on G. I. Gurdjieff, becoming active in practical and thematic Gurdjieff studies from 1956, after studying with Kenneth Walker and later with Henriette H. Lannes ("Madame Lannes") as his Gurdjieffian teacher and mentor between October 1957 and December 1978. His first major study, ''Gurdjieff and Mansfield'' (1980), examined the lives of Gurdjieff and the short story writer Katherine Mansfield. Moore's book challenged the persistent belief that Gurdjieff was somehow responsible when Mansfield, who arrived at Gurdjieff's institute in France suffering from terminal tuberculosis, died within a few months while still his guest. James William Moore (September 14, 1910 – November 17, 1999), known as "Cowboy Jimmy Moore", was a world-class American pocket billiards (pool) player originally from Troup County, Georgia, and for most of his life a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, best known for his mastery in the game of straight pool (14.1 continuous). James Moore (14 January 1849 – 17 July 1935) was an English bicycle racer. He is popularly regarded as the winner of the first official cycle race in the world in 1868 at St-Cloud, Paris, although this claim seems to be erroneous. In 1869 he won the world's first road race Paris–Rouen sponsored by ''Le Vélocipède Illustré'' and the Olivier brothers' Michaux Bicycle Company. Moore covered the in 10 hours and 25 minutes. James "Jemmy" Moore (1839 – 19 April 1890) was an Australian cricketer who played a single first-class match for New South Wales during the 1861–62 season. Born in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, Moore was the much younger brother of George Moore, who had emigrated to Australia in 1852. James E. "Bouncy" Moore (born June 4, 1951) is a retired American track and field athlete, known for the long jump (thus the nickname he acquired). He was a two time National Champion. He was the silver medalist at the 1971 Pan American Games. While competing for the University of Oregon, his points as runner up in the 1970 Long Jump at the NCAA Championships helped Oregon gain enough points to tie for the National Championship with BYU and Kansas. He was the 1971 NCAA Champion. Also in 1971, he was on the American team in the inaugural USA vs Africa series. Prior to Oregon he competed for San Diego High School, finishing third in the 1968 CIF California State Meet. Arnie Robinson was a rival from nearby Morse High School. James Moore (1 September 1891 – December 1972) was an English professional footballer, who played as a forward for various clubs, including Barnsley, either side of the First World War. He was on the Barnsley club that won the FA Cup in 1912. Club career Moore was born at Felling, Tyne and Wear and was trained as a carpenter. He played his early football at local level, with Boldon Colliery Welfare and Jarrow Croft. Barnsley He joined Barnsley in August 1911, shortly before his twentieth birthday, and was brought into the first team to replace the injured Bert Leavey in the third replay of the Fourth Round FA Cup match against Bradford City on 21 March 1912. Jimmy Moore (footballer, Born 1889)
James Moore (11 May 1889 – 1972) was an English footballer who played at inside-left for Derby County and made one appearance for England in 1923. Football career Moore was born in Handsworth in Birmingham and after playing for local sides Quebec Albion and Cradley Heath joined Glossop in the summer of 1911. He remained with Glossop, then playing in the Football League Second Division for two seasons before moving to Derby County of the First Division for a fee of £1,500 in October 1913. Although Derby were relegated at the end of Moores's first season with the club, they bounced back and returned as champions in 1915. By this time, however, the First World War had broken out and football was suspended until 1919. On Christmas Day 1922 (now back in the Second Division), Moore scored five goals for Derby County in a 6–0 victory over Crystal Palace.
