James Dimmitt
James Albert Dimmitt (21 June 1888 – 29 January 1957) was an Australian politician who was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1938 to 1953. He later served as Agent-General for Western Australia from 1953 until his death. Dimmitt was born in Melbourne, and arrived in Western Australia in 1911, where he began working as a salesman. He eventually became a company director, serving on the boards of a wide variety of companies, including a match company, an insurance company, a coal-mining firm, and an airline ( West Australian Airways). His own company, Armstrong Dimmitt Ltd., sold motor vehicle parts and accessories. Dimmitt was elected to parliament in 1938, representing Metropolitan-Suburban Province. He was appointed chairman of committees in the Legislative Council in 1946, replacing James Cornell. Western Australian Legislative Council
The Western Australian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Western Australia, a state of Australia. It is regarded as a house of review for legislation passed by the Legislative Assembly, the lower house. The two Houses of Parliament sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Perth. Effective on 20 May 2005, for the election of members of the Legislative Council, the State was divided into 6 electoral regions by community of interest —3 metropolitan and 3 rural—each electing 6 members to the Legislative Council.. The 2005 changes continued to maintain the previous malapportionment in favour of rural regions. Legislation was passed in 2021 to abolish these regions and increase the size of the council to 37 seats, all of which will be elected by the state-at-large. West Australian Airways
West Australian Airways was an Australian airline based in Geraldton, Western Australia. Established on 5 December 1921 as Western Australian Airways by World War I pilot Norman Brearley, it was the first airline in Australia to establish a scheduled air service. The first service left Geraldton on 2 November 1922. On 12 June 1936, West Australian Airways was purchased by Adelaide Airways for £25,000. Ross McLarty
Sir Duncan Ross McLarty, (17 March 1891 – 22 December 1962) was an Australian politician and the 17th Premier of Western Australia. Early life McLarty was born in Pinjarra, Western Australia, the youngest of seven children of Edward McLarty, a farmer and grazier and member of the Western Australian Legislative Council, and his wife Mary Jane, née Campbell. He attended Pinjarra State School and the Perth Boys' High School. On 12 January 1916 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force at the Blackboy Hill depot. On 27 March he was promoted to corporal and assigned to the 44th Battalion, arriving in England on 21 July. The 44th Battalion departed England for the Western Front on 25 November 1916. McLarty was promoted to sergeant on 29 March 1917. James Cornell
James Cornell (23 December 1874 – 25 November 1946) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1912 until his death. He was elected President of the Legislative Council in July 1946, but served just four months before dying in office. Early life Cornell was born in Merrijig, Victoria, to Barbara Jane (née Brown) and Henry Cornell. He came to Western Australia in 1897, initially working as a station hand at a lease on the Ashburton River. In 1900, Cornell moved to the Eastern Goldfields, working as a miner, labourer, and iron worker's assistant in Boulder.
