James Cummins (poet)
James Cummins is an American poet. Biography Cummins teaches at the University of Cincinnati and is the curator of the Elliston Poetry Collection. He is married to the poet and art critic, Maureen Bloomfield (''Error and Angels'', University of South Carolina, 1997). They have two daughters. His poems have appeared in The Best American Poetry series in The Best American Poetry 1994, 1994, The Best American Poetry 1995, 1995, The Best American Poetry 1998, 1998, and The Best American Poetry 2005, 2005. Series editor David Lehman thanked Cummins for "useful suggestions" in the The Best American Poetry 2005, 2005 and The Best American Poetry 2006, 2006 editions of the series. James Turner Cummins
Major-General James Turner Cummins CB DSO (12 October 1843 – 24 October 1912) was a British military officer who served in the Indian Army. Biography He was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1842, the son of Nicholas Cummins. He was educated at Cheltenham College and at Addiscombe Military Seminary. On passing out at Addiscombe in 1861 he was commissioned into the Madras Army. He was promoted to captain in 1873. In 1875, Cummins transferred to the Madras Staff Corps and served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War between 1878 and 1880. He thereafter served in the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882 and was made a major in 1883. In 1885, he took part in the Suakin Expedition and the Third Anglo-Burmese War, where he was mentioned in dispatches twice. Following this he was appointed Assistant Adjutant-General to the Madras Force and became a lieutenant colonel in 1887 and colonel in 1894. James Robert Cummins
James Robert Cummins or Cummings, aka: "Windy Jim" (January 31, 1847 – July 9, 1929) was an American criminal. Cummins lived near Kearney, Missouri and rode with Quantrill's Raiders during the Civil War, most often assigned to follow "Bloody" Bill Anderson. A known horse thief, he joined up with the James-Younger gang, James-Younger Gang after the war and was involved in the train robberies at Winston and Blue Cut, Missouri. After the breakup of the James Gang, he became a farmer in Arkansas and actually tried to turn himself in several times, but no one believed he was really Jim Cummins. At the age of 63 he married Florence Sherwood and lived to an old age. In 1903 he published a memoir of his time with the James-Younger gang, "Jim Cummins' Book Written by Himself, The Life Story of the James and Younger Gang and Their Comrades, Including the Operations of Quantrell's Guerrillas, By One Who Rode With Them: A True But Terrible Tale of Outlawry." James (Jack) Cummins
James (Jack) Cummins (1773–1849) was a Texas farmer, public official and a colonist of Stephen F. Austin's first settlement in Texas. Early life and family James (Jack) Cummins was born circa 1773. He became interested in Texas from as early as July 15, 1819, while operating a salt business on the south side of the Caddo River in Arkansas. He was in Texas before June 1822 and settled on the east bank of the Colorado River, opposite the community at Beason's Ferry, site of the present town of Columbus. While he was returning east to gather his family, an Indian raid destroyed his corn crop, leaving them without provisions when they arrived. Cummins and his wife, Rebecca, were the parents of six children. Career He became mayor (alcalde) of San Felipe de Austin on August 16, 1823, and served for four years.
