James Crane (actor)
James Lyon Crane (1889–1968) was an American stage and screen actor. Early years Crane was born in Rantoul, Illinois, and was the son of writer Frank Crane, who left the ministry and became an editorial writer for ''The New York Globe.'' He attended Bowdoin College and Williams College. During summer vacations, he began acting with stock companies in Worcester, Massachusetts. Career Crane's New York debut came in ''The Price'' at the Hudson Theatre, after which he spent three years in stock theater, including having his own troupes in four cities. His Broadway credits included ''The Varying Shore'' (1921), ''Odd Man Out'' (1925), ''All Dressed Up'' (1925), ''Black Cockatoo'' (1926), ''Lost'' (1927), and ''Revelry'' (1927). In 1930, Crane signed with First National to make the film ''One Night at Susie's''. Personal life Crane was married to actress Alice Brady from 1919 to 1922. Together they had a son Donald Crane. James Crane (police Officer)
Sir James William Donald Crane (1 January 1921 – 29 November 1994) was a British police officer who served as HM Inspector of Constabulary from 1976 to 1979; and HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary for England and Wales 1979–82. After wartime service with the Royal Hampshire Regiment, he joined the Metropolitan Police in 1946. By the early 1970s he was the Commander of the Fraud Squad . He was promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner and it was in this role that on 19 July 1972 he began the Poulson investigation. At the time this was the UK's biggest ever corruption inquiry: it eventually led to the resignation of Reginald Maudling, then Home Secretary and notionally in charge of the police. In 1973 Crane arrested Poulson who was later convicted. As Chief Inspector of the Constabulary, Crane was also involved in investigating the failings of the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. James Robert Crane (born January 17, 1954) is an American businessman from Houston, Texas. Crane is chairman and chief executive of Crane Capital Group, Crane Worldwide Logistics, and Crane Freight and Shipping. He is also the owner and chairman of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball - which under his ownership has won two World Series championships (2017, 2022). Early life and education Crane, who grew up in the north St. Louis suburb of Dellwood, Missouri, attended Lutheran High School North and graduated in 1972. He gave the school a donation of $1 million to improve their athletic facilities and enlarge the size of the campus from 40 acres to 67 in 2004. The school named the James R. Crane Athletic Complex for his contribution.
