James Cogdell
James Wesley Cogdell (born 22 September 1953) is an American mathematician. Education and career He graduated from Yale University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree and in 1981 with a Ph.D. His doctoral dissertation ''Arithmetic Quotients of the Complex 2-Ball and Modular Forms of Nebentypus'' was supervised by Ilya Piatetski-Shapiro. Cogdell was a postdoc at the University of Maryland and the University of California, Los Angeles. He was from 1982 to 1988 an assistant professor at Rutgers University. At Oklahoma State University he was from 1987 to 1988 assistant professor, from 1988 to 1994 an associate professor, and from 1994 to 2004 a full professor (from 1999 as Southwestern Bell Professor, from 2000 as Regents Professor, and from 2003 as Vaughan Foundation Professor). Hervé Jacquet
Hervé Jacquet is a French American mathematician, working in automorphic forms. He is considered one of the founders of the theory of automorphic representations and their associated L-functions, and his results play a central role in modern number theory. Career Jacquet entered the École Normale Supérieure in 1959 and obtained his doctorat d'état under the direction of Roger Godement in 1967. He held academic positions at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (1963–1969), the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (1967–1969), the University of Maryland at College Park (1969–1970), the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (1970–1974), and became a professor at Columbia University in 1974, becoming Professor Emeritus in 2007. Joseph Bernstein
Joseph Bernstein (sometimes spelled I. N. Bernshtein; he, יוס(י)ף נאומוביץ ברנשטיין; russian: Иосиф Наумович Бернштейн; born 18 April 1945) is a Soviet-born Israeli mathematician working at Tel Aviv University. He works in algebraic geometry, representation theory, and number theory. Biography Bernstein received his Ph.D. in 1972 under Israel Gelfand at Moscow State University. In 1981, he emigrated to the United States due to growing anti-semitism in the Soviet Union. Bernstein was a professor at Harvard during 1983-1993. He was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1985-86 and again in 1997-98. In 1993, he moved to Israel to take a professorship at Tel Aviv University (emeritus since 2014). Peter Sarnak
Peter Clive Sarnak (born 18 December 1953) is a South African-born mathematician with dual South-African and American nationalities. Sarnak has been a member of the permanent faculty of the School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study since 2007. He is also Eugene Higgins Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University since 2002, succeeding Andrew Wiles, and is an editor of the Annals of Mathematics. In mathematics, a modular form is a (complex) analytic function on the upper half-plane satisfying a certain kind of functional equation with respect to the Group action (mathematics), group action of the modular group, and also satisfying a growth condition. In mathematics, a Dirichlet series is any series of the form \sum_^\infty \frac, where ''s'' is complex, and a_n is a complex sequence. It is a special case of general Dirichlet series.
