James Cavanagh (architect)
James Charles Cavanagh (1874 – 6 May 1957) was an Australian architect, primarily known for his work in Western Australia and Queensland. Early life and education James Charles Cavanagh was born in Melbourne in 1874, the third son of an Irish born builder and contractor, John Cavanagh ( – 18 March 1895). In 1881 his family moved to Adelaide, South Australia, where his father took on a position as supervisor of public buildings in the Government Architect's Department. Cavanagh was educated at the Christian Brothers College, Adelaide and then at the South Australian School of Art, following which he was articled to his older brother, Michael's, architectural practice. In 1891, Cavanagh enrolled as a student at the Royal Institute of British Architects, studying at the South Kensington Academy in London. James Cavanaugh (songwriter)
James Anthony Cavanaugh (New York City, 29 October 1892 - New York City, 18 August 1967) was an American songwriter. Among his best known songs were "Mississippi Mud" (1927, made popular by Bing Crosby), " Crosstown" (1940, co-written with John Redmond), and "The Gaucho Serenade" (title track of the soundtrack to the Gene Autry 1940 movie Gaucho Serenade). Conroy", and was working as a private chauffeur for a businessman at 43 West 55th St. also in Manhattan. James Cavanagh (soldier)
James Cavanagh (c. 1831 – 7 January 1901) was an Irish-American soldier. He was the first general officer in the New York Guard. Biography Cavanagh was born in County Tipperary, Ireland and emigrated to New York when he was sixteen years old and went to work as a carpenter. In 1852 he enlisted as a private in the Sixty-Ninth Regiment of the Militia, and was captain of Company C of the state command when it went to take part in the American Civil War, April 23, 1861. When the regiment returned after the First Battle of Bull Run and was reorganized as the Sixty-Ninth New York Volunteers of the Irish Brigade, he again went to the front as its major. In this rank he served during the campaigns of the Army of the Potomac, until the battle of Fredericksburg, 13 December 1862, when he was shot in the hip while leading the regiment in one of the charges up Marye's Heights. Jim Cavanagh
James Luke Cavanagh (21 June 1913 – 19 August 1990) was an Australian politician and government minister. Cavanagh was born in Rosewater, South Australia and educated at the Dominican School in North Adelaide. He left school at 14 to work as a plasterer. He became an active member of the pacifist League against War and Fascism and continued to work as a plasterer during World War II. He was the Secretary of the Plasterers Society of South Australia from 1945 to 1962.
