James Harvey Carson
James Harvey Carson (February 11, 1808 – January 13, 1884) was a Brigadier General (CSA), brigadier general in the Virginia militia, who served along with the Confederate States Army in northwestern Virginia at various times during 1861 and early 1862 in the American Civil War (Civil War). Carson's men were part of Stonewall Jackson, Stonewall Jackson's force that moved to take the town of Bath (Berkeley Springs), West Virginia, Bath, later Berkeley Springs, now in West Virginia, on January 3, 1862. Carson left the military on February 1, 1862 to go back to and become president of the Virginia State Senate. He returned to farming in 1864 and was active in law and real estate in Frederick County and in Leesburg, Virginia, Leesburg in Loudoun County, Virginia after the war. James Carson (American Football)
James "Big Daddy" Carson Jr. (February 25, 1940 – October 7, 1999) was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi from 1992 to 1998, compiling a record of 54–25–1. Carson's Jackson State Tigers won a black college football national championship in 1996 and back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) titles in 1995 and 1996. They appeared in the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship playoffs three consecutive years from 1995 to 1997. A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Carson played college football as an offensive guard and nose tackle at Jackson State, garnering All- NAIA honorable mention honors in 1962. His son, Ricardo, played football at the school from 1991 to 1994. Carson stepped down from his post at Jackson State in May 1999 after undergoing intestinal surgery the previous month. James Carson M.D. FRS (1772–1843) was a Scottish physician. Life Carson was originally educated for the ministry, but attended medical classes at the University of Edinburgh, and graduated doctor of medicine there in the autumn of 1799. He then moved to Liverpool, where he remained for most of his professional career. In 1808 Carson came prominently before the public with the case of Charles Angus, a Liverpool chemist, charged with the murder of Margaret Burns, an alleged poisoning. At the trial held at Lancaster assizes on 2 September that year Carson on Angus's behalf maintained his own opinion as to the cause of death, against that of the four medical witnesses called for the Crown, among whom was John Bostock the younger. A verdict of not guilty was returned. Carson remained at Liverpool, and subsequently held several posts there. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society on 1 June 1837.
