James Carpenter is a San Francisco Bay Area stage actor, who performs with the California Shakespeare Theater in Orinda, California, and the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) in San Francisco. ACT's Carey Perloff described him as "...one of the finest American actors anywhere." Carpenter moved to the Bay Area in the mid-1980s and started appearing onstage regularly with Berkeley Rep. James Carpenter (born 1949) is an Americans, American light artist and designer. Life He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in sculpture in 1972. He studied with Dale Chihuly. He works at James Carpenter Design Associates. Carpenter was selected to design new public spaces and visitor amenities for the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Awards Carpenter has won a number of awards, including the Institute Honor Award, American Institute of Architects in 1991 and The Daylight and Building Component Award, by the Villum Foundation, VILLUM FONDEN # VELUX FONDEN (THE VELUX FOUNDATIONS) in 2009. James Carpenter (astronomer)
James Carpenter (1840–1899) was a British astronomer at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. During the 1860s he performed the first observations of stellar spectra at the observatory, under the direction of the Astronomer Royal George Airy. In 1861–62 he was one of three astronomers to successfully observe the dark underside of the rings of Saturn, the other two astronomers being William Wray and Otto Struve. In 1871, the engineer James Nasmyth partnered with James Carpenter to produce a book about the Moon titled, ''The Moon: Considered as a Planet, a World, and a Satellite''. This work was illustrated by photographs of plaster models representing the lunar surface, with the illumination from various angles. The result was more realistic images of the lunar surface than could be achieved by telescope photography during that period. James Edward Carpenter Jr. (born March 22, 1989) is an American football guard who is a free agent. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks as the 25th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at Alabama. High school career Carpenter attended Hephzibah High School in Hephzibah, Georgia, where he played offensive guard for the Hephzibah Rebels high school football team. Considered a two-star recruit by Scout.com, Carpenter was listed as the No. 193 offensive guard in the nation in 2007. Carpenter received only one offer, which was by Iowa State. James Robert Carpenter (born 20 October 1975) is a former English cricketer. Carpenter was a left-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Birkenhead, Cheshire. Carpenter made a single Minor Counties Championship appearance for Cheshire against Oxfordshire in 1996, before joining Sussex in 1997. In that same year he made his first-class debut for the county against Surrey in the County Championship. He made infrequent appearances for Sussex in first-class cricket, making twelve more appearances, the last of which came against New Zealand A in 2000. James Henry Carpenter (September 14, 1846 – March 6, 1898) was a 19th-century American engineer and industrialist who founded the Carpenter Steel Company (renamed in 1968 as the Carpenter Technology Corporation). Born in Brooklyn, New York, he joined the Union Navy as a "cabin boy" at age 15 during the American Civil War, during which he was wounded in action. He was promoted to master's mate in the United States Navy for meritorious conduct and was appointed to the United States Naval Academy at age 16. He resigned from the US Navy in 1865, aged 19, and studied engineering in New Jersey. On June 7, 1889, he founded the Carpenter Steel Company of Reading, Pennsylvania, becoming its general manager. James Madison Carpenter, born in 1888 in Blacklands, Mississippi, near Booneville, in Prentiss County, was a Methodist minister and scholar of American and British folklore. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Mississippi, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Harvard in 1929. He is best known for his substantial work collecting folk songs in England, Scotland and Wales. He recorded well-known singers and musicians that other folklorists had documented, as well as some never recorded before or since such as Bell Duncan, whose repertoire (according to Carpenter) consisted of some 300 songs, including 65 Child ballads. His collection methods included Dictaphone recordings as well as transcriptions of lyrics.
