James Burrows (Australian Politician)
James Burrows (21 December 1886 - 17 August 1970) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Burrows was born at Eidsvold, Queensland, the son of Henry Burrows and his wife Laura Christine (née Brandis). He was educated at Gaeta, Mount Perry and Many Peaks state schools and then did an accountancy and Local Government Clerkship correspondence course with Hemingway Robertson Ltd. He did general bushwork before becoming and auditor and registered valuer. In October 1940 Burrows married Bertha Maud Wilkinson and together had four sons. He died at Gladstone in October 1978. Public life Burrows, representing the Labor Party, won the seat of Port Curtis at the 1947 Queensland state election. Electoral District Of Port Curtis
Port Curtis was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1860 to 1992. The district was named after the harbour at Port Curtis, and centred on the regional city of Gladstone. In 1992, it was renamed Gladstone. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. It has been the only unicameral state legislature in the country since the upper chamber, the Legislative Council, was abolished in 1922. 1963 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 1 June 1963 to elect the 78 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The major parties contesting the election were the Country Party led by Premier Frank Nicklin, the Liberal Party led by Alan Munro, the Labor Party led by Jack Duggan and the Queensland Labor Party led by Paul Hilton. The Country and Liberal parties governed in coalition. This election marked the return of preferential voting after first past the post voting had been used for elections from 1944 to 1960. The Country-Liberal coalition won a third term in office at the election. 1947 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 3 May 1947 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first that the Labor government had contested under Premier Ned Hanlon, who had been in office for 14 months by the time of the poll. The election resulted in Labor receiving a sixth term in office. It was the first Queensland election at which all seats were contested by at least two candidates. Many Peaks, Queensland
Many Peaks is a town in Gladstone Region in Queensland, Australia. It is one of four small townships within the locality of Boyne Valley along with Nagoorin, Builyan and Ubobo. History Gureng Gureng (also known as Gooreng Gooreng, Goreng Goreng, Goeng, Gurang, Goorang Goorang, Korenggoreng) is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken by the Gureng Gureng people. The Gooreng Gooreng language region includes the towns of Bundaberg, Gin Gin and Miriam Vale extending south towards Childers, inland to Monto and Mt Perry. The township was briefly called Nanandu, but the name was changed back to Many Peaks in July 1909 to avoid being confused with the town of Nanango. The Many Peaks Range runs to the east and south east of the Boyne Valley. The Many Peaks Boarding House had been conducted by Mrs Nina Jensen at Nanandu for several years previously. The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). Biography Williams was born at Bundamba, Queensland, the son of Thomas Williams and his wife Diane (née Philip).
