James Caulfeild Browne, 2nd Baron Kilmaine (16 March 1765 – 23 May 1825) was an Anglo-Irish Member of Parliament and landowner. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland in 1790. He was an MP for Carlow Borough from January 1790 to May 1790. He was the eldest son of John Browne, 1st Baron Kilmaine, and his wife, Hon. Alicia Caulfeild, daughter of James Caulfeild, 3rd Earl of Charlemont. He resided at Gaulstown House. The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. Carlow Borough was a constituency representing the borough of Carlow in the Irish House of Commons, the lower house in the Irish Parliament of the Kingdom of Ireland. It returned two members to the Parliament of Ireland from 1613 to 1800. History The borough was incorporated in 1296 by Edward I and received further charters under the Stuart monarchs. In the Patriot Parliament of 1689 summoned by James II, Carlow was represented by two members. John Browne, 1st Baron Kilmaine (20 May 1726 – 7 June 1794), known as Sir John Browne, 7th Baronet, from 1765 to 1789, was an Irish people, Irish politician. Kilmaine was the younger son of Sir John Browne of The Neale, 5th Baronet, and Margaret Dodwell. His father was the ''de jure'' 5th Baronet, of The Neale, but like his predecessors had never assumed the title. His elder brother Sir George Browne, 6th Baronet, was the first to assume the title and in 1765 Kilmaine succeeded him as seventh Baronet. In 1776 he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Newtownards (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Newtownards, a seat he held until 1783, and then represented Carlow Borough (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Carlow Borough as a Member of Parliament (MP) between 1783 and 1789. James Caulfeild, 3rd Earl Of Charlemont
James Molyneux Caulfeild, 3rd Earl of Charlemont KP (6 October 1820 – 12 January 1892) was an Irish politician and peer. He was the son of Hon. Henry Caulfeild, younger son of James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, and Elizabeth Margaret Browne. Charlemont was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was appointed High Sheriff of Armagh for 1842 and held the office of Whig Member of Parliament (MP) for County Armagh between 1847 and 1857. He was Lord Lieutenant of County Armagh between 1849 and 1864. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Charlemont, amongst the other peerages, on 26 December 1863 on the death of his uncle Francis. Gaulstown, also spelt Gallstown is a townland in County Westmeath, Ireland. The townland is located in between the towns of Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass, close to the R446 regional road.. Sir Charles Phillip Vinchon Des Voeux, 1st Baronet (died 24 August 1814) was an Irish politician. Des Voeux was the son of Martin Anthony Vinchon de Bacquencourt, who had assumed the surname of Des Voeux after leaving France to settle in Ireland having abandoned the Roman Catholic faith. Des Voeux made a fortune in India before returning to Ireland and representing Carlow in the Irish House of Commons between 1783 and 1790. John Ormsby Vandeleur (1765 – 28 November 1828) was an Irish barrister, landowner and politician from Kilrush in County Clare. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland from 1790 to 1800, and then in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1802. Early life and family He was the eldest son of Crofton Vandeleur of Kilrush, MP for Ennis. His mother Alice was a daughter of Thomas Burton of Buncraggy, County Galway and Dorothy Forster, daughter of John Forster, Chief Justice of the Irish Common Pleas and his second wife Dorothy Evans. Vandeleur was educated at Glasgow University, and then at Lincoln's Inn. He was called to the bar in Ireland in 1790. Baron Kilmaine
Baron Kilmaine is a title that has been created twice, both times in the Peerage of Ireland. The first creation came in 1722 in favour of the soldier the Hon. James O'Hara. Two years later he succeeded his father as Baron Tyrawley. However, both titles became extinct on the second Baron Tyrawley's death in 1773 without legitimate sons. The second creation came in 1789 when Sir John Browne, 7th Baronet, of The Neale, was created Baron Kilmaine, of The Neale in the County of Mayo. He had previously represented Newtownards and Carlow Borough in the Irish House of Commons. His grandson, the third Baron, sat in the House of Lords as an Irish Representative Peer from 1849 to 1873. John Cavendish Browne, 3rd Baron Kilmaine (11 June 1794 – 13 January 1873) was an Anglo-Irish politician and landowner. He was an List of Irish representative peers, Irish representative peer (1849–73). Kilmaine was the eldest son of James Browne, 2nd Baron Kilmaine and Anne Cavendish, daughter of Sir Henry Cavendish, 2nd Baronet. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He died in Dublin in 1873. Kilmaine was married twice and was succeeded by his eldest surviving son, Francis Browne, 4th Baron Kilmaine, Francis William.
