James Brown (athlete)
James Brown is a former Northern Irish paralympic-cyclist, who competed for Great Britain, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. He is visually impaired and participated in five Paralympic Games in various sports. Brown earned two gold medals at the 1984 Summer Paralympics in athletics and a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the men's road time trial with sighted pilot Damien Shaw. Paralympic career Brown is visually impaired from birth and began cycling at the age of five and running at the age of 13 while attending the Royal National College for the Blind. Following instruction in skiing, he joined the British Paralympic Team for the 1982 Disabled Alpine World Championships. He later worked at the Royal National College for the Blind as a volunteer guide runner, including at the World Youth Games for the Disabled. Portaferry
Portaferry () is a small town in County Down, Northern Ireland, at the southern end of the Ards Peninsula, near the Narrows at the entrance to Strangford Lough. It is home to the Exploris aquarium and is well known for the annual Gala Week Float Parade. It hosts its own small Marina, the Portaferry Marina. The Portaferry - Strangford Ferry service operates daily at 30-minute intervals (7.45 am to 10.45 pm) between the villages of Portaferry and Strangford, less than 1500 metres apart, conveying about 500,000 passengers per annum. It had a population of 2,514 people in the 2011 Census. Pot fishing, mainly for prawns and crabs and licensed shellfish farming takes place within Strangford Lough. The ''Down Recorder'' is a weekly newspaper published in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland every Wednesday. It is owned by W.Y. Crichton & Co. History The paper, then known as ''The Downpatrick Recorder'', was first published on 31 December 1836. It was the first newspaper to be published in the town, and was owned by Conway Pilson, the son of a local historian. At that time, news from London and abroad came by boat to Belfast in the evening. However, the boat rested for 12 hours at Newry, from Downpatrick. Pilson organised a horse relay to bring the news from there so he could publish it before any rival papers. The paper was renamed ''The Down Recorder'' in 1878 to reflect its wider circulation.
