Jim Barnett (Kansas Politician)
James A. Barnett (born July 30, 1954) is an American Republican politician from Kansas. Barnett ran for governor in 2018, ultimately coming in third place in the primary. Barnett formerly represented the 17th district of the Kansas Senate, which is centered on Emporia. On August 1, 2006 Barnett won the Kansas Republican Gubernatorial Primary. Barnett faced the incumbent Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius in the general election on November 7, 2006 and was unsuccessful in his bid as Sebelius was reelected for a 2nd term. On June 2, 2009, Barnett announced that he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for the United States Congress from the first district of Kansas. On August 3, 2010, Barnett lost the Republican nomination to fellow state senator Tim Huelskamp. Jim C. Barnett (December 8, 1926 – July 26, 2013) was an American physician and politician who served from 1992 to 2008 in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Born in Edinburg in Leake County in central Mississippi, Barnett served in the United States Navy during World War II and as a naval flight surgeon during the Korean War. James Barnett (''c.'' 1760 – 1 October 1836) was an English banker and Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1806 and 1820. Barnett was the son of Charles Barnett and his wife Bridget Clayton, daughter of Alexander Clayton. He became a banker. James Barnett (May 18, 1810 Orange County, Vermont – July 23, 1874 Oneida, Madison County, New York) was an American politician from New York. Life The family removed to Madison County, New York, in 1817. James attended the common schools, and worked on his father's farm. In 1832, he became a merchant's clerk, and in 1836 opened his own business in Fayetteville, Onondaga County. On March 23, 1836, he married Julia Ann Rich (1816–1848), and they had five children. In 1838, he removed to Peterboro. On December 25, 1848, he married Ellen King (1812–1874), and they had two daughters. He entered politics as a Democrat; became a friend of Gerrit Smith and was a member of the Liberty Party; and joined the Republican Party upon its foundation.
