James B. Dickman
James (Jay) B. Dickman (born 1949), is an American photographer, he won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography while a staff member for the ''Dallas Times Herald''. In the same year he also won the ''World Press Golden Eye'' for a series of photos from the war in El Salvador. Dickman has also been awarded the ''Distinguished Journalist award'' from '' Sigma Delta Chi'', and multiple awards in other competitions. The Sigma Delta Chi Awards are presented annually by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) (formerly Sigma Delta Chi) for excellence in journalism. The SPJ states the purpose of the award is to promote "the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry". History The awards program began in 1939. The SPJ first awarded the Distinguished Service Awards. These awards later became the Sigma Delta Chi Awards.
