James Arndell Youl
Sir James Arndell Youl (1811–1904) was a Tasmanian colonist from New South Wales. Life He was the eldest son of John Youl, and inherited Symmons Plains. He became a noted pastoralist, best known for introducing brown trout to Australia, and was created a Justice of the Peace in 1837. Youl moved to England in 1854 with his wife Eliza (née Cox), where he lived in Chapham Park, Surrey. In 1861 he was appointed the unpaid official representative of Tasmania in London. He was a Commissioner for Australia at the 1862 International Exhibition. For many years he was honorary secretary and treasurer of the Australian Association and in 1868 he became a founding member and Vice President of the Colonial Society (now Royal Commonwealth Society). John Youl
John Youl (1932 – 27 September 2009) was an Australian motor racing driver, race track owner and prominent Tasmanian grazier. Youl was best known for his driving in open wheel racing cars during the 1950s and 1960s and by the 60's was one of the most prominent Australians of this discipline. His career highlight came in 1962 when he finished second in the Australian Grand Prix behind international grand prix racer Bruce McLaren at the Caversham airfield circuit. A twice runner-up in the CAMS Gold Star for the Australian Drivers' Championship, Youl raced in the inaugural Tasman Series in 1964 before stepping away from the sport as a competitor. He remained close to the sport however, developing Symmons Plains Raceway on part of the family's grazing land in northern Tasmania. Richard Youl
Richard Youl (3 December 1821 – 6 August 1897) was an Australian coroner, surgeon, public servant and general practitioner. He was younger brother of James Arndell Youl. He grew up and was educated in England, graduating from the University of St Andrews, moving to Victoria when he returned to Australia. He was a noted medical practitioner, becoming in 1852 a founding member and secretary of the Victoria Medical Association. In 1853 he was appointed assistant surgeon to the Melbourne Gaols and a magistrate and district coroner for Bourke, New South Wales. During 1854 he was acting coroner for Melbourne, and from 1854 to 1867 he was visiting justice to penal establishments in Victoria. He became Melbourne Coroner permanently in 1857 and lost office in 1878 due to Premier Graham Berry's purge of civil servants claiming being unable to pay them.
