James Albert Cross
James Albert Cross, (December 11, 1876 – March 1, 1952) was a lawyer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He was a soldier's representative in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1917 to 1921, then represented Regina City from 1921 to 1925 and Willow Bunch from 1925 to 1929 in the Saskatchewan assembly as a Liberal. Biography He was born in Caledonia Springs, Ontario and went to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1898, studying law with James Balfour and Frederick Haultain. Cross was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1905 and was named King's Counsel in 1916. He served four years on the Regina Public School board including one year as chairman. Cross served overseas during World War I and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He returned to the practice of law in 1919. Caledonia Springs, Ontario
Caledonia Springs is now an unincorporated community in the northwest of the municipality of The Nation, Prescott and Russell United Counties in eastern Ontario, Canada. It is part of the National Capital Region and is in the geographic county of Caledonia. County Road 20 forms a 90 degree angle heading north and east from the settlement. The nearest named communities are Alfred in the township of Alfred Plantagenet to the north west, and Vankleek Hill to the east. A tributary of the Ruisseau des Atocas flows through the community. Caledonia Springs was once the site of a large mineral springs spa and hotel. Opening in the 1830s, it slowly grew from a simple structure to a very large luxury health spa and resort before closing in 1915. 1921 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1921 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 9, 1921, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Liberal Party of Saskatchewan of Premier William M. Martin was re-elected – although with a diminished share of the popular vote, and a reduced caucus in the legislature. The opposition Conservative Party – led by Donald McLean – fractured: it nominated only seven candidates, and won only two seats. Its share of the popular vote fell from about 36% to less than 4%. It appears that many Conservatives ran as independents or Independent Conservatives. These two groups won over 29% of the vote, and voters elected a total of eight Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) under these banners. World War I
