''Jalla! Jalla!'' is a Swedish comedy film, which was released in cinemas in Sweden on December 22nd 2000. It was directed by Swedish-Lebanese filmmaker Josef Fares, and starred Fares Fares, Torkel Petersson, Tuva Novotny and Laleh Pourkarim in the leading roles. It Josef Fares's directorial debut film and received seven film festival nominations, of which it won four. “Jalla! Jalla!” is Arabic for “Come on!” or “Hurry up!”. Plot Best friends Roro (Fares Fares) and Måns (Torkel Petersson), work in park management carrying out day-to-day manual jobs. Josef Fares
Josef Fares (born 19 September 1977) is a Swedish-Lebanese film director and video game designer of Assyrian descent. His brother is the actor Fares Fares, who has appeared in many of his films. He is the founder of Hazelight Studios. Biography Josef Fares moved to Sweden when he was 10 years old, fleeing the Lebanese Civil War with his family. ''Variety'' declared him one of ten upcoming directors to watch in 2006. The same year he won the Nordic Council Film Prize for his film '' Zozo''. In 2013, he directed his first video game, '' Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons''. The game was well received by critics. Fares Fares
Fares Fares (; born 29 April 1973) is a Swedish-Lebanese actor of Assyrian descent. Early life Fares was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His younger brother is director Josef Fares, and he has four sisters. In 1987, when Fares was 14 years old, his family moved to Sweden, residing in Örebro. They moved to escape the Lebanese Civil War and chose Sweden because they had relatives who had already lived there. Fares says he learned Swedish within three months of living in Sweden. From the age of 15, Fares acted in a local theater group in Örebro. When he was 19, he attended drama school in Mölnlycke near Gothenburg, Sweden. He spent six years working in the Theatre Tamauer. Tuva Moa Matilda Karolina Novotny Hedström (born 21 December 1979) is a Swedish actress, director, and singer. She was born in Stockholm, and was raised in Åmot, Brunskog, outside Arvika. Laleh Pourkarim ( fa, لاله پورکریم, ; born 10 June 1982), known mononymously as Laleh (), is an Iranian-Swedish singer-songwriter, record producer, guitarist, pianist, and record company manager. Following a short acting career, she entered the music industry in 2005 with her self-titled debut album, which peaked at number one in Sweden and went on to become that country's highest selling album of the year. Daniel Lemma (born 1972 in Ethiopia) is a Swedish-based musician/singer-songwriter. His music is firmly connected to an American tradition of roots music, with visible ties to early blues and gospel. He has referred to singers such as Lead Belly and Pops Staples as being very influential to him- but also artists such as Chuck Berry, James Brown and Bob Dylan. Daniel Lemma was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, but came to Sweden as an infant. He formed his first bands in his teens, and couple of years later he moved to Gothenburg (where he still resides). In the mid nineties, Lemma was a part of the group Mo Blues. He later moved to New York, where he recorded an album (for Pallas Records) that was never released due to a legal dispute. The Lebanese people of Sweden are people from Lebanon or those of Lebanese descent who live in the country of Sweden. The majority of Lebanese people came in Sweden in the period between 1970s and 1980s, either escaping the Lebanese Civil War or for economic reasons. In 2016, there were 148 registered emigrations from Sweden to Lebanon. The Lebanese people in Sweden have set up their own traditional cultural and political organizations, including the Swedish Lebanese Friendship Association (SLFA).
