Jalen Chatfield
Jalen Chatfield (born May 15, 1996) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played with the Vancouver Canucks. Growing up in Michigan, Chatfield began playing organized competitive ice hockey with the Compuware Triple-A Under-13 team. He then spent two seasons with the Belle Tire Midget Major U18 team before signing with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. While with the Spitfires, Chatfield helped them win the 2017 Memorial Cup. Early life Chatfield was born on May 15, 1996, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, U.S. to parents Scott and Tomara. Ypsilanti (), commonly shortened to Ypsi, is a city in Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 20,648. The city is bounded to the north by Superior Township and on the west, south, and east by Ypsilanti Township. Nicklas Lidström
Erik Nicklas Lidström (; born 28 April 1970) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey defenceman and current vice president of hockey operations for the Detroit Red Wings. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings, which he captained for the final six seasons of his career. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defencemen in NHL history and nicknamed "The Perfect Human." Over his 20 NHL seasons, Lidström won four Stanley Cup championships, seven James Norris Memorial Trophies (awarded to the NHL's top defenceman), one Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff most valuable player, and was voted into 12 NHL All-Star Games. The ''Observer-Dispatch'' (''The O-D'') is the largest newspaper serving the Utica-Rome metropolitan area in Central New York, circulating in Oneida County, Herkimer County, and parts of Madison County. Based in Utica, New York, the publication is owned by Gannett. History Eliasaph Dorchester founded the weekly ''Utica Observer'' in 1817. The paper briefly moved to Rome, New York and published under the name of the ''Oneida Observer'', but returned to Utica after. The paper consolidated with the ''Utica Democrat'' in 1852, bringing with it long-time editor Dewitt C. Grove, who simultaneously served as mayor of Utica from 1860 to 1862. Patrick Wiercioch ( ; born September 12, 1990) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He has formerly played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Ottawa Senators, the team who drafted him in 2008, and the Colorado Avalanche. Wiercioch was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, and grew up in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. 2017–18 AHL Season
The 2017–18 AHL season was the 82nd season of the American Hockey League. The regular season ran from October 6, 2017, to April 15, 2018. The 2018 Calder Cup playoffs followed the conclusion of the regular season. The Toronto Marlies won their first Calder Cup in seven games over the Texas Stars. League changes The AHL's only alignment change was moving the Charlotte Checkers from the Central Division of the Western Conference to the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, significantly decreasing their interdivisional travel and balancing the two conferences' members. Similar to the season scheduling in the previous season, the six California and Arizona based teams continued to have a 68-game season while the rest of the AHL teams play a 76-game season. Utica Comets
The Utica Comets are a professional ice hockey team based in Utica, New York, with home games at the Adirondack Bank Center. They are members of the North Division in the Eastern Conference of the American Hockey League (AHL) and affiliated with the National Hockey League's (NHL) New Jersey Devils. The team was established when the Vancouver Canucks relocated their AHL franchise to Utica for the 2013–14 season and remained until the 2020–21 season. The Devils then agreed to lease their franchise to the Comets after the Canucks moved their AHL franchise to Abbotsford. The Comets are the second AHL team to call Utica home; another New Jersey Devils affiliated team, the Utica Devils played in the city from 1987 until 1993.
