Jale Refik Rogers
Jale Refik Rogers (born 1977) is a Turkish Cypriot molecular biologist and politician. She was elected as a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Northern Cyprus in 2018. Early years and education Jale Refik Rogers was born in North Nicosia in 1977. She completed her secondary education at the Türk Maarif Koleji. She received the Fulbright Scholarship and enrolled to the University of Maine. She graduated ''magna cum laude'' with a bachelor of science degree, majoring in biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry in 1998. Before starting to her doctoral studies at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the Cornell University, she worked as a research assistant for the Harvard Medical School. She received a PhD degree from the Cornell University in Molecular Biology in 2006. Professional career Rogers was a research fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery from 2006 to 2007. North Nicosia or Northern Nicosia ( tr, Kuzey Lefkoşa ; el, Βόρεια Λευκωσία) is the capital and largest city of the ''de facto'' state of Northern Cyprus. Near East University (NEU; tr, Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi, commonly referred to as YDÜ) is a private university located in North Cyprus. It was founded in North Nicosia in 1988, by Suat Günsel, a Turkish Cypriot who is the 100% owner of NEU. The chairman of the board of trustees is his son, Irfan Günsel. The Near East University currently has 16 faculties with 98 departments, 4 vocational schools, 2 high schools and 4 graduate schools offering programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 2022 Northern Cypriot Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 23 January 2022. Going into the election, the government was led by Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu of the National Unity Party (UBP). The Sucuoğlu cabinet, was formed in November 2021 and was a minority coalition government of the National Unity Party (UBP) and the Democratic Party (DP). It functioned as a caretaker government until the snap election. The National Unity Party won 24 seats, gaining three compared to the previous elections in 2018. The main opposition party, the Republican Turkish Party won 18 seats, gaining six. Three other parties won seats; the Democratic Party and the People's Party both won three seats, while the Rebirth Party won two. The Communal Democracy Party lost all the seats it held. Girne District
Girne District ( tr, Girne İlçesi) is one of six districts of Northern Cyprus. It is divided between two sub-districts: Girne Sub-district and the Çamlıbel Sub-district. Its capital is Kyrenia, also known by its Turkish name, as Girne. Its population was 73,577 in the 2011 census. Its Governor is Mehmet Envergil. It has the same boundaries as the Kyrenia District of Cyprus, a distinct political entity and local government-in-exile which claims the same territory.
