Jalapeno Golf Classic
The Jalapeno Golf Classic was an annual golf tournament for professional women golfers on the Futures Tour, the LPGA Tour's developmental tour. The event was part of the Futures Tour's schedule from 2005 to 2008. It took place at Palm View Golf Course in McAllen, Texas. The tournament was a 54-hole event, as are most Futures Tour tournaments, and included pre-tournament pro-am opportunities, in which local amateur golfers can play with the professional golfers from the Tour as a benefit for local charities. The benefiting charity for the Jalapeno Golf Classic was the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Futures Tour
The Epson Tour, previously known as the LPGA Futures Tour, and known for sponsorship reasons between 2006 and 2010 as the Duramed Futures Tour and between 2012 and 2021 as the Symetra Tour, is the official developmental golf tour of the LPGA Tour. Tour membership is open to professional women golfers and to qualified amateurs. History The Futures Tour was founded in Florida in 1981 as the "Tampa Bay Mini Tour". It officially became the ''Futures Golf Tour'' in 1983 and in 1999 become a national tour designated as the "official developmental tour" of the LPGA Tour (the U.S.-based professional women's golf tour). The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) is an American organization for female golfers. The organization is headquartered at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is best known for running the LPGA Tour, a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female professional golfers from around the world. McAllen, Texas
McAllen is the largest city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States, and the 22nd-most populous city in Texas. Vicky Hurst
Vicky Hurst (born June 19, 1990) is an American professional golfer currently playing on the LPGA Tour. She turned professional as a 17-year-old in 2008, while still in high school. Playing on the Futures Tour that year, she won five times and set a Tour record for single season earnings with $93,107. Childhood and family life Hurst was born to a golfing family. While pregnant with Vicky, her mother Koko, a native Korean, was completing a round of golf at Andrews AFB near Washington, D.C. when her water broke on the 16th hole. Although winning the round, Koko left to give birth to Vicky at the base's medical center. Her father, Joe, who met Koko while he was stationed in Korea in the 1980s, was a retired Air Force colonel. Grace Park (golfer)
Grace Park (born 6 March 1979) is a retired South Korean professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. She was a member of the LPGA Tour from 2000 until her retirement in 2012 and won six LPGA Tour events, including one major championship, during her career. Amateur career Park was born Park Ji-eun (Korean: 박지은) in Seoul, South Korea. She moved to Hawaii at the age of 12, and then to Arizona. She received the 1996 Dial Award as top female high-school scholar-athlete in the United States. She attended Arizona State University and graduated from Ewha Womans University in 2003. In 2002, she won the Honda Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the best female collegiate golfer in the nation. The 2008 Duramed Futures Tour was a series of professional women's golf tournaments held from March through October 2008 in the United States. The Futures Tour is the second-tier women's professional golf tour in the United States and is the "official developmental tour" of the LPGA Tour. Leading money winners The top ten money winners at the end of the season gained membership on the LPGA Tour for the 2009 season, with those finishing in the top five positions gaining higher priority for entry into events than those finishing in positions six through ten. Emily Bastel
Emily Bastel Glaser (born August 6, 1980), née Emily Bastel, is an American college golf coach and a former professional golfer. She played on the Futures Tour and LPGA Tour and is currently the head coach of the Florida Gators women's golf team of the University of Florida. Early life Bastel was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The Bastel family had owned and operated a golf course since the 1930s, and her father worked as the resident pro and the course superintendent. She attended Upper Sandusky High School, where she was a three-time all-state selection for the Upper Sandusky Rams girls' golf team. She graduated from Upper Sandusky in 1998. Kristy McPherson
Kristy McPherson (born May 28, 1981) is an American professional golfer, currently playing on the LPGA Tour. Early life and amateur career A native of South Carolina, McPherson was diagnosed with Still's disease at age 11, which is a form of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Confined mostly to bed and unable to walk for a year, she was told she would no longer be able to compete in any sport that required jumping or running. As a result, she took up golf and played on the boys' golf team at her high school. She earned a golf scholarship to the University of South Carolina, and recorded seven victories in her four-year collegiate career. Virada Nirapathpongporn ( th, วิรดา นิราพาธพงศ์พร, born 21 April 1982) is a Thai former professional golfer who won the 2003 U.S. Women's Amateur. Nirapathpongporn was born in Bangkok, Thailand. She attended Duke University, where she won the 2002 NCAA Division I Championship. She graduated in 2004 with BA degree in psychology.
