However, due to the increasing number of housing areas off the road, traffic volume increased tremendously and there were cases of fatal accidents along this road. A project to upgrade this route into a four-lane dual carriageway was initiated in 2001 and completed in 2003. Federal Route 58, or Jalan Batak Rabit-Teluk Intan-Bidor, is a Malaysian federal road in Perak state linking Federal Route 1 at Bidor to Teluk Intan and Federal Route 5. Route background The Kilometre Zero of the Federal Route 58 is located at Batak Rabit in Teluk Intan, at its interchange with the Federal Route 5, the main trunk road of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. History In October 1995, the overhead bridge across the railway near Kampung Baru Bidor Stesen collapsed after a goods train jumped rail and crashed onto the beam supporting the bridge. As a temporary measure, a one-lane Bailey bridge was erected while a permanent concrete bridge was constructed from 1997. The new bridge opened to traffic in March 1998 and the Bailey bridge was dismantled. In the early days, this route only had two lanes. Kampar ( Jawi: كمڤر, nicknamed ''Education City'') is the largest town of the eponymous Kampar District, Perak, Malaysia. Founded in 1887, the town lies within the Kinta Valley, an area rich with tin reserves. It was a tin mining town which boomed during the height of the tin mining industry. Bukit Kayu Hitam is a small town in Kubang Pasu District, Kedah, Malaysia. It is situated near the Malaysia–Thailand border and the main and busiest road border crossing between Malaysia and Thailand is located here. North–South Expressway Northern Route
The North–South Expressway Northern Route is an interstate controlled-access highway running parallel to the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The expressway forms the north section of the North–South Expressway, passing through the northwestern states of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor. The expressway begins at the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint in Kedah where the Malaysia–Thailand border lies, and ends at Bukit Lanjan in Selangor where the expressway interchanges with the New Klang Valley Expressway. The expressway is operated by PLUS Expressways. The expressway runs in a north–south direction close to the northwestern coast of the peninsula, connecting several major towns including Alor Setar, Butterworth, Taiping, Ipoh and Rawang while also providing access to several rural villages on its path.
