Jakup Krasniqi
Jakup Krasniqi (born 1 January 1951) is a Kosovo-Albanian politician and former acting President of Kosovo. He is former Chairman of the Assembly of Kosovo. In November 2020 he was arrested for charges of crimes against humanity and war crime filed before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. Early life Jakup Krasniqi was born near Glogovac, Kosovo to Albanian parents. He finished elementary school in his birthplace, Negroc, in 1965 while he finished high school in Prishtina in 1971. He attended the Faculty of Philology of the University of Prishtina and graduated in 1976. Political career During the Kosovo War, he was the spokesman for the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK). As of 28 September 2010, Jakup Krasniqi served as the acting President of Kosovo, following the resignation of Fatmir Sejdiu following a constitutional crisis. President Of Kosovo
The president of the Republic of Kosovo ( sq, Presidenti i Republikës së Kosovës, ), is the head of state and chief representative of the de facto Republic of Kosovo in the country and abroad. The president is elected indirectly, by the Assembly of Kosovo, in a secret ballot by a two-thirds majority of deputies in functions. If no candidate achieves a two-thirds majority, at the third ballot the candidate who receives a simple majority is elected. The vote in the Assembly should take place no later than a month before the end of the incumbent president's term of office. The president serves for a five-year term, renewable once. The Albanians of Kosovo ( sq, Shqiptarët e Kosovës, ), also commonly called Kosovo Albanians, Kosovar/Kosovan Albanians or Kosovars/Kosovans, constitute the largest ethnic group in Kosovo. 2010 Political Crisis In Kosovo
The 2010 political crisis in Kosovo started when the Constitutional Court of Kosovo stated that the President of Kosovo Fatmir Sejdiu was violating the Constitution of Kosovo, because he was both president of the Republic of Kosovo and also leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). This resulted in Sejdiu stepping down as president on September 27. A new election was announced for December 12, 2010. Jakup Krasniqi became the acting president of Kosovo until the election.
