Jakub Štěpánek
Jakub Štěpánek (born 20 June 1986) is a Czech professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Brûleurs de Loups of the French Synerglace Ligue Magnus. Playing career Štěpánek began his professional career with HC Vítkovice of the Czech Extraliga in 2006. He was selected to play for the Czech national team at the 2010 Winter Olympics along with goaltenders Ondřej Pavelec and Tomáš Vokoun, both of whom play in the National Hockey League. He has also represented his country at two IIHF World Championships, helping the Czechs win gold at the 2010 tournament in Germany. Štěpánek helped St. Petersburg win their fourth Spengler Cup in 2010, their first title since 1977. Goaltender
In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. 2012 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships
The 2012 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were the 76th such event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. 46 teams representing their countries participated in six levels of competition. IIHF World Championships
The Ice Hockey World Championships are an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics, it is the sport's highest profile annual international tournament. Tomáš Vokoun
Tomáš Vokoun (; born 2 July 1976) is a Czech former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Nashville Predators, after he was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round, 226th overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Early career (1994–1998) Vokoun was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 226th overall. He remained in the Czech Republic for another year, playing with Poldi Kladno. Vokoun moved to North America for the 1995–96 season and played for the Wheeling Thunderbirds of the ECHL. Ondřej Pavelec
Ondřej Pavelec (; born 31 August 1987) is a Czech former professional ice hockey goaltender. Drafted in the second round, 41st overall, by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2005, he stayed with the team as they became the Winnipeg Jets in 2011, and played his final season with the New York Rangers. During the 2012–13 NHL lockout, Pavelec played for Bílí Tygři Liberec of the Czech Extraliga (ELH) and Pelicans of the Finnish SM-liiga. Hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at Rogers Arena (then known as GM Place, and renamed ''Canada Hockey Place'' for the duration of the Games due to IOC sponsorship rules) in Vancouver, home of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, and at UBC Winter Sports Centre, home of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's UBC Thunderbirds.
