Jakob Bagge
Jakob Tordsson Bagge (1 May 1502 – 14 January 1577) was a Norwegian born, Swedish admiral and nobleman. Biography Bagge was born the son of Norwegian nobleman Thord Olofsson Bagge and his wife Ingeborg Jakobsdotter. Both he and his father were first in the military service of Denmark. He entered Swedish military service for King Gustav Vasa in 1522. He fought for Sweden in the Count's Feud of 1534–1536. He took part in the suppression of the rebellion of Nils Dacke in 1542. By the 1550s, Bagge was considered the most experienced of Sweden's admirals. He served with Baron Klas Horn (1517– 1566) at Vyborg Castle during 1557. He participated in the battle against the Danish forces at the Battle of Bornholm on 30 May 1563. He subsequently fought in the Northern Seven Years' War of 1563–1570. Vyborg Castle
Vyborg Castle (russian: Выборгский замок, fi, Viipurin linna, sv, Viborgs slott) is a Swedish-built medieval fortress around which the town of Vyborg (today in Russia) evolved. The castle became the stronghold of the Swedish realm in the Karelian region. Throughout the centuries, it was the first defence of the kingdom against Russians. Its military and strategic status in the late Middle Ages was second only to the fortified capital Stockholm. Currently it serves as the site of Vyborg Regional Museum. The Swedish nobility ( sv, Adeln eller Ridderskapet och Adeln) has historically been a legally and/or socially privileged class in Sweden, and part of the so-called ''frälse'' (a derivation from Old Swedish meaning ''free neck''). The archaic term for nobility, ''frälse'', also included the clergy, a classification defined by tax exemptions and representation in the diet (the Riksdag). Today the nobility does not maintain its former legal privileges although family names, titles and coats of arms are still protected. Norrköping Municipality (''Norrköpings kommun'') is a municipality in Östergötland County in southeast Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Norrköping, with some 90,000 inhabitants. Mem Castle
Mem Castle (''Mems slott'') is located at Tåby parish, Norrköping Municipality in Östergötland County Sweden. It is situated near the mouth of the Göta Canal. History Mem dates back to 14th century. In 1572, Mem received manor status. The estate has been owned by many Swedish counts, barons and noble families. Mem was an important centre for Duke Karl, later King Charles IX of Sweden and his armed forces during the war against King Sigismund III Vasa late in the 16th century. Two stone wing buildings with high manor roofs were built in 1730s. In the late 1790s, the main building was built around the medieval stone fortress. Another floor was built on the main building and the older building style was replaced with stepping stone gables in Gustavian style architecture. Eric XIV Of Sweden
Eric XIV ( sv, Erik XIV; 13 December 153326 February 1577) was King of Sweden from 1560 until he was deposed in 1569. Eric XIV was the eldest son of Gustav I (1496–1560) and Catherine of Saxe-Lauenburg (1513–1535). He was also ruler of Estonia, after its conquest by Sweden in 1561. While he has been regarded as intelligent and artistically skilled, as well as politically ambitious, early in his reign he showed signs of mental instability, a condition that eventually led to insanity. Some scholars claim that his illness began early during his reign, while others believe that it first manifested with the Sture murders. Eric, having been deposed and imprisoned, was most likely murdered. An examination of his remains in 1958 confirmed that he probably died of arsenic poisoning.
