Jake Weatherald
Jake Weatherald (born 4 November 1994) is an Australian cricketer. Originally from Darwin in the Northern Territory, he is an opening batsman who plays for South Australia in both first-class and one-day cricket and plays for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He had a breakout season in 2015–16, making his first-class debut for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and scoring two half-centuries in the final. He has since had contracts with both South Australia and the Strikers in every season. Career Beginnings (2013–2017) Weatherald began his cricket career in Darwin, and he got his first major opportunities in the West End Premier League, playing for the Northern Territory Strike. He had early successes, scoring a century against Papua New Guinea in 2013. Strike Rate
Strike rate refers to two different statistics in the sport of cricket. Batting strike rate is a measure of how quickly a batter achieves the primary goal of batting, namely scoring runs, measured in runs per 100 balls; higher is better. Bowling strike rate is a measure of how quickly a bowler achieves the primary goal of bowling, namely taking wickets (i.e. getting batters out)measured in balls per wicket; lower is better. For bowlers, economy rate is a more frequently discussed statistic. Both strike rates are relatively new statistics, having only been invented and considered of importance after the introduction of One Day International cricket in the 1970s. Hurstville Oval
Hurstville Oval is a multi-use sporting ground, located in the suburb of Hurstville, in Sydney's southern suburbs. Since its opening, it has held various sports at the venue – including Cricket, Rugby League, Cycling and Football. The oval also has a velodrome in the grounds, between the field and the stands. The ground was opened in 1911. Since 2015 it has been one of the home grounds of JLT Cup team Cricket Australia XI. Sports used Cycling The St George Cycling Club, originally known as Hurstville Bicycle Club, started competition at the oval in 1906 on grass. Boundary (cricket)
In cricket, the boundary is the perimeter of a playing field. It is also the term given to a scoring shot where the ball is hit to, or beyond, that perimeter, which generally earns four or six runs for the batting team. Edge of the field The boundary is the edge of the playing field, or the physical object (often a rope) marking the edge of the field. In low-level matches, a series of plastic cones are sometimes used. Since the early 2000s, the boundaries at professional matches are often a series of padded cushions carrying sponsors' logos strung along a rope. Cricket Australia XI
Cricket Australia XI is a domestic cricket team that plays matches against international teams touring Australia. The team formerly played in Australia's JLT Cup limited-overs tournament. Before each tournament, a 14-man squad was selected from young players with state contracts, or Australian National Performance Squad players, who had not been picked in their respective states' 14-man List A squads for that season's tournament. The aim was to develop their skills against top players. The addition of the Cricket Australia XI to the JLT One-Day Cup expanded the competition to seven teams. The team made their List A debut against New South Wales on 5 October 2015, losing by 279 runs. They scored their first win five days later against Tasmania, winning by 3 runs. Western Australia Cricket Team
The Western Australian Men’s cricket team, formerly nicknamed the Western Warriors, represent the Australian state of Western Australia in Australian domestic cricket. The team is selected and supported by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), and plays its home games at the WACA Ground and Perth Stadium in Perth. The 2015–16 Sheffield Shield season was the 114th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia.
