Jaime Fernandez (rower)
Jaime Francisco Fernandez (born 4 April 1971) is an Australian former Rowing (sport), rower. He was a national champion, a three-time Olympian and an Australian representative at five World Rowing Championships. He won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the men's eight. Early life and studies Fernandez was born in Melbourne. He grew up in the remote mining town of Gove, Northern Territory, but moved to Adelaide for high school, where he attended Christian Brothers College, Adelaide, Christian Brothers College. His main sporting interest at the time was Australian Rules Football, but he was required to participate in a summer sport as well, and he selected rowing. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Geoffrey Stewart
Geoffrey Peter Stewart (born 15 December 1973) is an Australian former rower – a national champion, an U23 world champion and a three-time Olympian. Rowing brothers Geoffrey's twin brother James was also a three time Olympic rower (1996, 2000, 2004). Their younger brother Stephen rowed at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. They became the first trio of brothers to represent Australia in rowing at the same Olympics when they all rowed at Athens 2004 to a bronze medal in the men's eight. Ben Dodwell
Benjamin Philip Dodwell (born 17 April 1972 in Melbourne) is an Australian former rower - a nine-time national champion, a triple Olympian, Olympic medal winner and representative at World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Dodwell was educated at Melbourne Grammar School where he took up rowing. He rowed in the school's first VIII of 1988. Four years later he would be competing at the Barcelona Olympics. From school he joined the Mercantile Rowing Club in Melbourne. Later during his Australian representative period he would row from the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney. Dodwell's first state representation came in 1990 when he was selected in the Victorian youth eight who contested and won the Noel F Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta in the Australian Rowing Championships. Rob Jahrling
Robert Jahrling (born 14 February 1974) is an East Berlin-born Olympian rower of East German parentage who competed for Australia at three Olympic Games. He is an Australian state and national champion, a medallist at World Rowing Championships, Rowing World Cups, Commonwealth Games and won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the men's eight. Personal Jahrling was born in East Berlin, Germany. His parents, Marina Wilke and Harald Jährling, are both Olympic gold medallists in rowing for East Germany. His mother – the coxswain of the East German women's eight – was not yet sixteen when Jahrling was born. Brett Hayman (born 3 May 1972 in Melbourne) is an Australian three time world champion, a dual Olympian and an Australian national champion rowing coxswain. He won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics steering the Australian men's eight. He coxed Australian crews at every premier world rowing regatta from 1993 to 2000. David Weightman (rower)
David Weightman (born 28 September 1971, in Brisbane) is an Australian former rower. He was a national champion and representative at World Rowing Championships, an Olympian and an Olympic silver medallist. Club and state rowing Weightman grew up in Brisbane and attended Brisbane Grammar School where he learnt to row in 1984. His senior rowing was with the University of Queensland Boat Club in Brisbane and the Mosman Rowing Club in Sydney. Weightman was a scholarship holder at the Australian Institute of Sport from 1993 to 1996 and was based in Canberra.
