Jags Krishnan
Jagadish "Jags" Krishnan (born 23 April 1972) is an Indian-born Australian politician and general practitioner. He was elected as a Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), Labor member for Electoral district of Riverton, Riverton in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly at the 2021 Western Australian state election, 2021 state election. Before politics Krishnan was born on 23 April 1972 to Krishnan Bellie and Sarasu Krishnan. He was born and grew up in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, India, attending Kotagiri Public School, St Antony's Higher Secondary School in Coonoor and Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore. He then attended JSS Medical College. He lived in the United Kingdom from 2005 to 2006, before moving to Perth, Western Australia. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Riverton is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Riverton is named for the southern Perth suburb of Riverton which falls within its borders. History Riverton was created at the 1988 redistribution, replacing the abolished district of Clontarf, which had been a safe Liberal seat since a redistribution prior to the 1977 election. Riverton was first contested at the 1989 election, at which Liberal Party member Graham Kierath was successful. He served as a minister in the Court government, and held the seat until his unexpected defeat at the 2001 election on a 10.16% swing. The seat was then held by Tony McRae of the Labor Party, until his defeat by the Liberal Party's Mike Nahan at the 2008 election. Suzanne Mary Ellery (born 12 May 1962) is an Australian politician who has been a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia since 2001, representing South Metropolitan Region. She is the current Minister for Finance, Minister for Commerce, and Minister for Women's Interests in the McGowan government, having previously served as a minister in the government of Alan Carpenter from 2007 to 2008. Early life Ellery was born in Perth to Rosemarie (née Gellard) and Peter Ellery. She attended Newman College before going on to the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She joined the Labor Party while at university, and in 1983 was the national women's officer for the Australian Union of Students. History The No Mandatory Vaccination Party was registered in January 2021 in preparation for the 2021 Western Australian state election. Cameron Tinley, the party's founder, had previously been fired from his job as a teacher at Atwell College for his refusal to get vaccinated for COVID-19. The party won no seats at the election, but was a part of a small party alliance that used Group Voting Tickets to get each other elected, resulting in the election of the Legalise Cannabis and Daylight Saving parties to the state's Legislative Council despite neither party earning more than 2% of the vote. How-to-vote cards (HTV) are small leaflets that are handed out by party supporters during elections in Australia. Voting in the Australian lower house uses a preferential voting system. Voters must rank every candidate on the ballot in order for their vote to count. There are often numerous candidates on the ballot, some with little public profile, so voters may find it difficult to decide on all of them. Parties produce how-to-vote cards ostensibly to help voters. They contain details about the candidate or party as well as instruction how to cast a ranked vote in the order that the party would prefer the voter follow. The flow of preferences can assist the party dispersing the cards directly and indirectly help allied parties. Mosman Park, Western Australia
Mosman Park is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia on the north bank of the Swan River in the local government area of the Town of Mosman Park. It was historically known as Buckland Hill (1889-1909), then Cottesloe Beach (1909-1930) and again Buckland Hill (1930-1937). From 1937 it was named Mosman Park, derived from Mosman in Sydney, the birthplace of Richard Yeldon, a member of the Buckland Hill Road Board.
